Magic Items[edit]

Like bonus items, magic items may appear when certain monsters are destroyed, or they may be hidden inside particular blocks. While they are worth a small amount of points, their true value lies in the powers they grant to Dana.

Arcade Item Value Description NES Item
100 points Use your wand on the change jewel and it will transform into other items according to the following cycle: and back to a change jewel again. You may collect whichever item you prefer.
2,000 points Use your wand on the change jewel and it will transform into other items according to the following cycle: and back to a change jewel again. You may collect whichever item you prefer.
200 points Collect a fire potion to add one regular fireball spell to your spell scroll. It will only add a spell if room is available on your scroll.
500 points Collect the super fire potion to add a super fireball spell to your spell scroll. It will only add a spell if room is available on your scroll.
200 points Collect a fire growth potion to upgrade the leftmost regular fireball spell on your spell scroll into a super fireball. It will only upgrade an existing fireball spell, it will not add one to your scroll.
200 points
Collect theses scroll parchment extensions to increase the amount of fireball spells you can store on your spell scroll. The scroll can only be extended to store up to 8 fireballs at maximum. When you earn a scroll by defeating a dragon, the scroll will be presented as laying flat on its side.
100 points Pick up this jewel to extend the range at which your fireballs will travel before dissipating. This jewel will extend that distance by one blocks length.
200 points This jewel will also extend the range at which your fireballs can travel. The red version of this jewel will extend that distance by the length of two blocks.
100 points If you collect this bottle, the bonus that you receive for any left over time will be doubled. However, the rate at which your remaining time will decrease will also double! Be careful when deciding to collect this.
500 points As with the bottle above, this bottle will both multiply your remaining time bonus, and similarly increase the rate at which the timer counts down. Only this bottle multiplies your bonus and speeds up your timer by a factor of 5! The benefit to your score may not be worth the risk.
100 points Touching this hourglass will set the timer to exactly half of the original starting time. This can be helpful if you find it when you are running out of time, but it will hurt you if you collect it early on.
500 points Touching this hourglass will restore the timer to its original starting time. This can be very helpful if you can collect the full green time bonus bottle later, but don't collect in reverse order.
500 points Collect this bottle to instantly destroy every generated enemy present on the screen. Destroyed enemies will turn into treasure.
1,000 points Collect this bottle to earn one extra life.

Hidden Bonus Items[edit]

In order to collect the hidden bonus items, you must never fail to collect any of the previous hidden bonus items of the same kind. If you miss one in an earlier stage, you will never find them again in a later stage. They will be replaced with a simple 100 point jewel. Some items have been repurposed in the NES version, and thus have been replaced with icons from Tecmo's Mighty Bomb Jack game.

Key NES Items[edit]

There are some extra items in the NES (and SMS) version of the game that serve specific purposes towards gaining access to hidden and later rooms of the game, as well as determining which of the game's endings you get to see.

Description NES Item
There are 12 Zodiac Panels in the entire game. They can be found on every fourth stage, although the later ones will be hidden from sight, and must be discovered. The panel shown here is merely one example. They each bear the sign of a different zodiac constellation.
There are 8 Solomon Seals hidden throughout the game. They are needed in order to collect the two lost pages of Solomon's Key and to rescue the Faerie Princess. Unless you find and collect all 8 of them, you will not be able to witness the best ending of the game.
The Page of Space is one of the lost pages of Solomon's Key. It has been stored in the Secret Room of Space, which requires the first four Solomon Seals to access.
The Page of Time is another lost page of Solomon's Key. It has been stored in the Secret Room of Time, which requires an additional two Solomon Seals (for a total of six) to access. Both pages are required in order to rescue the Faerie Princess.
Solomon's Key is the ultimate goal of the game. Once you gain access to it, the game's ending will play.
Bomb Jack, the star of his own arcade game, as well as the NES/Famicom sequel Mighty Bomb Jack, makes a cameo in Solomon's Key. If you jump 11 times in the correct location on certain stages, Bomb Jack will appear and hop around, and all of the enemies on the stage will be turned into Faeries if you collect him!
The Tecmo Plate awards only half as many points as it did in the arcade, but it also provides Dana with an extra life. However, you must collect it properly. When it first appears, it will be gray. Use your wand on it to cover it in stone. Then headbutt the stone until it breaks. When it is revealed, it will be in color.
The magic lamp is just like the Tecmo Plate; it awards you with 500,000 points and one extra life. However, you do not need to do anything special to collect it other than find it. There is only one in the game.
Golden Wings appear starting in stage 7 and every 8 stages thereafter. If you find and collect the Golden Wings, you will warp ahead 6 stages after you complete the current stage. While this is a nice way to get to the end faster, using them is not recommended if you want to receive the best ending, since you will miss many important items along the way.
