Various gaming systems of different types, many of which are consoles.
Consoles[edit | edit source]
A console is a sort of computer made to play video games. A game stored in a disc, card, or cartridge form is put into the console in a slot where the console reads the data. It uses the data from the game and the input from the controller to produce an image which is sent to the screen to display or to a television via an input cable to display.
Computers[edit | edit source]
Computers are differentiated from consoles simply because they are (typically) openly programmable by anyone, unlike most commercial consoles, and because their purpose extends beyond merely playing video games. Throughout history, however, computers or "PCs" have been equally capable or even more capable of playing games with a higher level of technological and graphical complexity than their contemporary console cousins. As a result, they have also been substantially more expensive than consoles.
