Wood Man's stage is a forest inhabited by robots that resemble wildlife, sugh as robot bats, mechanical hares, and atomic chickens.  The Metal Blade is a useful weapon against almost all enemies, especially the bats which hang overhead and attack by flying down to collide with Mega Man.  Also, it can be used to fire downward to destroy the mechanical apes before they jump onto the same platform as Mega Man.

Wood Man begins by activating his leaf shield, which surrounds him with indestructible leaves.  He will cause leaves to drift down from the top of the screen, which damage Mega Man on contact, and at the same time he will launch his leaf shield at Mega Man.  The attacks can all be avoided by correctly timed jumps, but Wood Man keeps advancing toward Mega Man, making each subsequent attack more difficult to avoid.  The Crash Bomber works well against Wood Man.  It does considerable damage and it can hurt him even when his leaf shield is active.  Defeating Wood Man awards the Leaf Shield, which surrounds Mega Man with impenetrable leaves as long as he stands still.  This shield becomes a projectile when Mega Man moves, firing off in the direction pressed on the Dpad.
