Welcome to StrategyWiki!

Hello BrownDerby! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide or ask a sysop, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the staff lounge as well. To keep up-to-date with the goings on of the wiki, consider adding the noticeboard to your watchlist.

Please remember to sign your name when leaving comments on talk pages by clicking Wikisigbutton.png or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Image categorisation

When uploading images, please make sure to categorise them using the correct image categories and the guide-specific category, i.e. [[Category:Game Name images]]. Please see our image policy for more details. Thanks for helping to keep our images neat! — WarioTalk 23:42, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

New Move list format

I'm trying to switch the move lists to use an easier format for arranging the pages which reduces the amount of transcluding pages in multiple places. Please create all the move lists on the /Moves page, and then transclude to Character pages from there. This avoids all the hidden character specific pages that appear everywhere, and all pages can be linked from the Table of Contents. -- Prod (talk) 23:12, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

How do you transclude from a /Moves page? I saw there was a Movelist template but I couldn't figure it out. -BrownDerby (talk) 23:36, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
I've done all the updates to SNK Gals Fighters. It's easiest when there's only one game in the "series". When you have multiple games it gets complicated. I've got a to-do list for all the old games in the previous format that i'm slowly working through, so I'll take care of all of those. I just want to direct you for new guides, as you seem to be on a roll :). -- Prod (talk) 23:49, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
I'm glad to see you getting into the wiki editing so well, and merging the Samurai Shodown 2 guide. Unfortunately, when merging guides, we have to be careful to make sure all editors are still attributed based on the license we follows (see my recent edits). For now I'd suggest that if you're adding to an existing guide, follow whatever standard is already used, and let me take care of the format migration. However, if this is a task that interests you, come on Discord and I can show you a few ways to maybe make the process easier. This series of games is actually a few entries down my list since it has almost 150 pages to update. -- Prod (talk) 05:05, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Character pages

The Street Fighter games have a lot of back story spanning multiple games, so individual character pages make more sense there. Some of these other games probably don't have as much content for each character, so it may be easier to just have one /Characters page which lists all the characters stories together. -- Prod (talk) 17:59, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Thank you

Feel free to add this to your user page instead. Procyon 21:37, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Walkthrough vs Getting Started pages

Before you power through too many guides, I've actually been thinking of switching the way we handle the GS/Walkthrough pages. How to Play to me sounds like it would fit fine under "Getting Started". Where as walkthrough is supposed to cover any story mode. I haven't really gotten anywhere discussing with the other Move Lists editors, but was wondering what you thought. -- Prod (talk) 20:28, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

The story mode in these games is usually just fight some random characters and then the boss, so you don't really need a walkthrough for them. But on every page of every game there are the walkthrough links, so I think it's fine to put the "how to play" stuff there. -BrownDerby (talk) 22:30, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
Even the "How to Play" stuff is pretty basic, so really just having the Moves list linked via the Custom Nav seems like the main benefit. -- Prod (talk) 00:02, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
Also, the ToC in the sidebar has the "How To Play" link right at the top, so what's in the header doesn't really matter. -- Prod (talk) 16:18, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
I just think it's fine how it is now. I don't see the benefit of changing it, and then all these games would have no walkthrough. -BrownDerby (talk) 18:10, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

I've posted here to get some feedback from more people. -- Prod (talk) 14:57, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Character pages for fighting games

I have a bot that will take care of setting up the basic structure of the character pages. I don't like having it create empty character pages, so I haven't let it create them for guides which only have the moves list and nothing else. If there's a guide you feel like writing character pages for, please let me know and I can have it set up the structure for all those pages so the only thing that would be needed is description. -- Prod (talk) 22:23, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

I probably won't add much but you could do The King of Fighters NESTS Collection, The King of Fighters XIV and Street Fighter X Tekken. -BrownDerby (talk) 06:09, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Done. -- Prod (talk) 15:18, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Why do some of the characters have different page names than their link names? When looking at some videos, some games showed short names in some places and long in others. Would it be possible to have the same (short) name used for their links and for the pages? -- Prod (talk) 01:52, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Which ones are you talking about specifically? I try to go by whatever they use on character select screens or under lifebars or whatever and sometimes that might be the last name instead of the first. -BrownDerby (talk) 02:06, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
I was thinking pages like Fatal Fury/Table of Contents linking to Fatal Fury/Geese. However, checking the histories, I realized you may not have worked on the guides which have names like that. -- Prod (talk) 02:13, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Samurai Shodown

Can you please update these links as well? Special:WhatLinksHere/Samurai Shodown/Shiro and Special:WhatLinksHere/Samurai Shodown/Rashoujin. -- Prod (talk) 19:49, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Done, this one too: Special:WhatLinksHere/Samurai_Shodown!/Shiro. -BrownDerby (talk) 20:27, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Can you please check the completion stages for the games in Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection? Many of them seem to have more than just cs1 content. -- Prod (talk) 19:38, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

KOF Maximum Impact Regulation A/Moves

I tried adding what characters I could find, but I think it's still missing some. -- Prod (talk) 21:13, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

I added the rest, it's just alternate versions for three of them. -BrownDerby (talk) 21:27, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

RCR

The content from both the games seems to match, just different prices. Would it make sense to include all the data with updated headings in a single table instead of separate sections? -- Prod (talk) 20:56, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

A lot of the item names are different too, and there was at least one where there was an extra item. I think if I put it all in one table it'd be too much. -BrownDerby (talk) 21:04, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
I think it might be worth a try. It just seems like a lot of space taken up for a limited amount of info. You could do something like:
River City Ransom Downtown Nekketsu Story
Item Price Effects Item Price Effects
Excaliber 100.00 Weapon +30, Will Power +63, Stamina +99, Max Power +24 Excalibur 10000 Weapon +30, Will Power +63, Stamina +99, Max Power +24

Namco series categories

Regarding your addition of Category:Namco to the categories of selected series they created on Friday, I feel I should point out those of some others you may also wish to add it to, if they do not have it already: Gee Bee, Tank Battalion, Rally-X, Bosconian, Pole Position, Babylonian Castle Saga (to give the "Druaga" series its real name), Baraduke, Thunder Ceptor, Genpei Touma Den, Rolling Thunder, Dragon Spirit, Final Lap, World Stadium (which was, at one time, their longest-running series next to Pac-Man in Japan, especially after they had acquired the license to use the Central and Pacific Leagues' teams in 1992), World Court, Splatterhouse, Winning Run, Golly! Ghost!, Steel Gunner, Cosmo Gang, Suzuka 8 Hours, Numan Athletics, Cyber Sled, X-Day, J-League (Sega also at one time acquired the license to use the J-League's teams for one of their own soccer games, The J.League 1994), Ace Driver, Alpine Racer, the Namco Classics Collections, Final Furlong & Mr. Driller. Namcorules (talk) 11:23, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for adding the Namco category to the ones for most of the series I mentioned above, especially as I said you did not have to; however, I have added it to those you missed myself so as not to give you any more extra work. Namcorules (talk) 18:37, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

The King of Fighters '99/Moves

When updating the move lists on this page, I found 2 pages which were orphaned.

From what I can tell, Krizalid 2 was converted to the new format (missing a few moves), and added to the moves page. But Krizalid 1 was discarded. Are you able to convert Krizalid 1 to the new format to add it as well? -- Prod (talk) 04:19, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Template:Input List Header

If you're already aware of this feature, then ignore this message. This template includes the game name so that it can pass it on to {{Input List Type}}, which uses the game name to add custom colouring from Game/Custom Input. If this custom colouring is important (the custom input page exists), you may want to keep the game name in place in the header. Here's the current list of games that use the feature for reference. -- Prod (talk) 06:12, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

KOF 98 UM changes

Hi BrownDerby. First, thanks as always for your continued excellent work with the fighting game moves lists. I truly appreciate the effort and attention to detail that you put into it. Second, thank you for fixing the edit errors made by RPC Gaming. I am concerned because he removed two whole moves from the list which I believe were legitimate moves. One desperation move for Chin which is more of a taunt than an attack (although it may have had the wrong motion listed) and a chained special move for Joe. Can you confirm whether those moves should have been removed or not? I suspect they should not have. Thanks very much! Procyon 00:46, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

I re-added Chin's move with the correct command but I think they were right about Joe's one, it's not in the PS2 or Windows versions. -BrownDerby (talk) 04:40, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks so much for checking. Procyon 01:01, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Animal Crossing

Please check out this tweet. https://twitter.com/StrategyWiki/status/1253826674845790215. -- Prod (talk) 23:30, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Super Game Boy

I'm not fully sure how to treat that. Didn't it support every Game Boy game? I feel every category should be included in the infobox somehow, but it seems redundant to show it along with Game Boy. What are your thoughts? -- Prod (talk) 20:37, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Some games were enhanced for SGB with extra colors/borders or multiplayer, and there were some backwards-compatible Game Boy Color games that had SGB support, so I was just going to add those, but it did support every Game Boy game so now I don't know. -BrownDerby (talk) 20:47, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea. Wikipedia says there are a lot of games that fall under this (528). I guess we can just add it under the "|systems" parameter. -- Prod (talk) 20:55, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
I'm completely in favor of identifying SGB enhanced games with this category. Procyon 20:47, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Rollbacker permissions

I've given you the rollbacker permissions. It automatically marks your edits as patrolled. -- Prod (talk) 00:59, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

StrategyWiki:Staff_lounge/2020/April#Rename

This discussion got archived, but I think the general direction is that they should be renamed. What would the new names be? -- Prod (talk) 01:29, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

-BrownDerby (talk) 16:45, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
I am in support of all of these changes. I think the general policy is that every games' titles should be able to be typed on a standard keyboard without having to rely on special ASCII or unicode characters. Procyon 01:22, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
I've completed most of the moves, can you please update {{Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer}}, {{Yakuza}} and Category:Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer? -- Prod (talk) 00:00, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Redirects

I saw the new redirects you created for alternate names. Can you also categorize those by the major differences? Details are here. -- Prod (talk) 20:09, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

Racing

I'm thinking of switching the racing name to be for the genre. One game blocking the ease of use of the genre seems sub optimal. -- Prod (talk) 18:41, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

I've started the discussion here. -- Prod (talk) 14:17, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Sailor Moon

Thanks for fixing the macrons, I wasn't sure of the correct way to update those. For the template, I sorted by approximate release, since I haven't seen the show and wasn't sure if the series (R/S/SuperS) was a relevant organization. Do you think it needs to be reorganized? The names I got from the wikipedia page. Do they seem correct? -- Prod (talk) 21:45, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

I don't know them too well but it seems correct. -BrownDerby (talk) 22:16, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Control Selector

Unfortunately, my bot can't properly handle all the Arcana Hearts character pages because of the {{control selector}}. If you're updating those pages, can you please move the template above the Moves heading? -- Prod (talk) 22:00, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

Ports, remasters, and re-releases

Can you please weigh in on StrategyWiki:Staff lounge#Ports, remasters, and re-releases? -- Prod (talk) 00:26, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

I've added an example, and a major incentive behind setting this up is improving our interlinking with PCGW. As you know, many of them are ports with new names, and I'd like to show the differences between the versions without needing separate pages for each. Could you please provide your thoughts on the updates I've posted? -- Prod (talk) 19:02, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome

Is Makai Kingdom: Reclaimed and Rebound a re-release? I saw you link it on pcgw, but I couldn't find a clear answer on this. And is there an independent release, or is it only part of Vol 2? -- Prod (talk) 23:52, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

It's a re-release. I think on Switch it's part of a compilation but on Steam it's separate. -BrownDerby (talk) 04:25, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
The original came out in 2005, and it looks like the 2011 psp release (Phantom Kingdom Portable) added a new mode, which suggests it should have a separate main page. The steam page also mentions Petta mode, so I think this may be a re-release of that one. Does that sound correct? -- Prod (talk) 14:16, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
Yes. -BrownDerby (talk) 17:40, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

A very optional suggestion

When filling out File, if have a listed type (such as type=screenshot or type=boxart), you do not actually need to write license=fairuse. It will automatically be filled in due to filling out type. It does not really matter either way, but thought it might be helpful if it saves you time. Trig - 18:32, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

3D Classics/Sega Ages

Thanks for adding the release details for these. Can you please also add the |series2/3 entries like on Sonic the Hedgehog as well? -- Prod (talk) 19:52, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Arcade Archives Trophies

Should PlayStation 4 trophies be added to the template directly? -- Prod (talk) 15:11, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

I added it. Is category:templates correct or should it be like guide-specific templates or another one? -BrownDerby (talk) 16:32, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
I think it's good as is. Very interesting that they're all so similar. -- Prod (talk) 18:06, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Wheredja Get This

File:13_Sentinels_Aegis_Rim_box.jpg can't find a decent source for this and thought you would know where you got it personally. Trig - 17:13, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

I noticed you hitting all the fighting game pages, and it's probably a bit late now, but it's generally recommended to avoid Click here type links. Wikipedia also recommends against it. This is something ReplaceText would actually be really good for as your additions have been very consistent. -- Prod (talk) 04:24, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

I'll keep using it for now, you can replace them all later. -BrownDerby (talk) 04:41, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
How about something like: Andy has appeared in [[SNK/Character pages#Andy Bogard|other fighting games]]. -- Prod (talk) 04:51, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Let me know once you're done and I'll run the replace. Also, are there any guides still pending for the movelist conversion, apart from Dissidia: Final Fantasy?-- Prod (talk) 03:17, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
Maybe JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Fist of the North Star (arcade). -BrownDerby (talk) 23:24, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
Jojo's seems to have the same moves for all games, so I'm not sure how we'd do a moves page for that. It'd be redundant to create the same page for each of the 3 games. I'd be tempted to do Fist the other way, transclude the moves onto a /Moves page instead of what I've done in all the other guides. -- Prod (talk) 22:16, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Are you able to contact me off-wiki? Perhaps on discord, email or twitter? -- Prod (talk) 03:16, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Rating templates

I've nominated you for sysop permissions so you can make the required changes yourself. -- Prod (talk) 03:05, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

I already uploaded the files, all you'd have to do is change ".png" to ".svg" in the templates. -BrownDerby (talk) 21:25, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
There's a few things where you've had to ask me for help only because of permissions. You have the knowledge to do all these things correctly whenever they come up and don't need to wait for me. You don't have have any obligations, it's just to make things easier for you. -- Prod (talk) 21:32, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Pop'n Pop flyer.png

The png actually seems to be clearer than the jpg. -- Prod (talk) 16:58, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

System pages

As you're updating the system pages, can you please remove the discontinued parameter, and change released to year? -- Prod (talk) 16:41, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

This may potentially be helpful for you

Loving the logo rips. When deleting a file that is identically named with only a different extension (for example, the recent SNK Playmore logo.png -> SNK Playmore logo.svg) you may find it faster/easier to use my Template:Jegman templates with a subst for the deletion reason. Putting {{delete|{{subst:Jegman}}}} will automatically replace with a file name using a png extension. Jegman2 will be svg, and Jegman3 is jpg. Given your mass svg-ism, using {{delete|{{subst:Jegman2}} may help you the most. Just throwing it out there, feel free to ignore if you prefer doing what you're doing. Yu Yu Hakusho

This link currently points to Yu Yu Hakusho Makyou Touitsusen. Yu Yu Hakusho (Game Boy) seems to be the first game released with the name, so shouldn't that game be getting the name instead of a redirect? -- Prod (talk) 22:38, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
