Move your Peasant to the southeast to mine from the Gold Mine at the end of the road, and select your Town Hall to train another to build a second Farm, allowing you to train at least one or two more: split them between mining Gold and harvesting Lumber to the east until you can build a Barracks and a Lumber Mill, then prioritize mining Gold.
==Walkthrough==
Start by training a Peasant. There is a Gold Mine to the Southeast, so start mining there. When you have at least four peasants mining gold, train at least two for lumber. Build a Barracks when at least three farms. Place your current troops at a position like this, somewhere near your town:

Orcs start attacking before you get this far, but they only approach one at a time every few minutes: since you're on the east side of Grand Hamlet, select your two Footmen and your Archer and move them to the west side of your Town Hall, and make sure your Footmen are positioned between your Archer(s) and any approaching Orc. After each Orc attack, quickly move an Archer around the periphery to increase the range at which you can detect them on the mini map.

Once one of your Peasants has built a Lumber Mill, you can train Archers at the Barracks: train at least one or two to reinforce your existing units, then select the Lumber Mill to upgrade their Arrow Strength (twice). If you keep all units close to the Town Hall and expand your awareness range on the mini map then this mobile force might be all you need to defend Grand Hamlet. However, building a third Farm and training a second group of four Archers should allow you to relax more: one group can guard the road through the trees to the north of your Town Hall, while the other guards the junction to the southwest.
Next, the AI will start sending grunts to attack, and then spearmen. They will come from the North, South, and East. Wait until they all come or use a good formation [[Warcraft: Orcs & Humans/Strategies|strategy]] to destroy the orcs.

A second group also allows you to be more proactive, searching and destroying while the other defends Grand Hamlet. Although Archers cost 50 Gold (and 50 Lumber) more than Footmen, a group of four with fully upgraded Arrow Strength should easily destroy a Grunt before he gets into attack range; they also have longer range than Spearmen, and a Footman's higher Armor gives him no advantage against them. As you search, it should soon become clear that Grand Hamlet is on the east bank of a river which is only crossed by two bridges, so once you've cleared your side and secured those bridges, Grand Hamlet is also secure and your Peasants can harvest and mine in peace since remaining Orcs cannot cross unchallenged.

* Make sure to train a lot of archers and footmen! There will be a consistency of attacks.
