Heroes come in two main classes, spell casters and fighters. For each city, heroes acquire a title depending on which class they belong to, for example the Castle gives spell casters the title of Clerics and fighters the title of Knights. The main difference is that spell casters are given a spell book (with some spells) for free whereas a fighter is required to purchase a book at a mage guild within a town. The list of heroes (below) places spell caster classes before fighter.

Depending on the hero's specialty, they may have in their inventory one of the three supporting war machines; for instance Rion has the specialty First Aid and thus starts with a first aid tent within his possession. Every hero, no matter what, has a catapult in their inventory.
