Day three: Court Mode

You instantly begin trial, and von Karma wants to end the trail in three minutes (don't worry, theres no time limit). Karma calls The Caretaker to the stand. You still haven't find The Caretaker's name, so if you have the choice, Raise the Objection. Karma adds that he didn't ask the name, as The Caretaker has troubled memory as if late.

1. It was the night of the 24th, just after midnight, ayup.
2. I was in the restaurant... where I er... rent boats, as usual.
3. Then I heard a "bang!" Ayup.
4. When I looked out the window, I saw a boat just a' floating on the lake.
5. Then I heard another "bang."
6. Just about then the boat comes to shore, and a man walks by my window.

Just before your cross-examination begins, Karma says there's no need for a cross-examine and theres 10 seconds left. The Judge asks if you'll agree. Of course you'll Cross-examine. The Judge agrees, much to Karma's anger.

The Night of the Murder: Cross-Examination

Press The Caretaker on his 6th statement. He claims to have seen that man by his window. The Judge wants The Caretaker to add that to his statement. Karma laughs. What's he up to?

• That man was the defendant... he was saying "I can't believe he's dead."

Didn't The Caretaker forget what he said yesterday? Press him on that statement. The Caretaker yells at "Keith" that he really saw Edgeworth, before he falls to the ground. Looks like Karma lured you to your fall, and the whole court is staring. Didn't you prove there were Edgeworth's fingerprints on there, yet the murderer was shooting from his left? You are given an option, choose Raise an objection. Karma will object back saying Edgeworth must have wiped off the fingerprints. The Judge is lost. Raise an objection again. Karma says the evidence says it all, unless you have proof. Unfortunately, Phoenix is all out of ideas. Maya tries to reach Mia once more... again, no luck. Without anymore evidence or objections, The Judge sees no reason to continue.

Miles Edgeworth is found Guilty as charged.

It's all over... or is it?

The Judge adjourns court...and then another outburst.

It isn't Maya this time, if you recall yesterday's court, but Larry, who, thanks to the court, remembers just now that he heard a bang as he found the Samurai balloon. Karma objects as the verdict has already been announced, however The Judge states that it's the law that the verdict can't be explained, unless, you listen to all of the witnesses. He then calls a five-minute recess.

That was a very close one, perhaps too close. Maya asks Edgeworth why his fingerprints were on the gun. He explains that after Hammond fell into the water, he pick the pistol up without any thought. Edgeworth then says that before this court, Karma has run nothing but perfect trials. It seems that this court is the very first time Karma has seen anything unexpected. This is the first time in his carrier that he has let someone he hasn't talked to (in this case Larry) testify in court.

Your back in court and Larry, much to Phoenix's chagrin', is your last hope of turning the Guilty verdict. Let's hope he doesn't mess up.

1. That night, I was out in the boat on the lake.
2. I was looking for something, and I, er, found it.
3. So I quietly slipped the boat back in at the rental shop deck.
4. Then, just as I was thinking about going home, I heard this "bang"!
5. I looked out over the lake, but I didn't notice the boat.
6. So after I heard that single gunshot I went home.

The Night of the Murder: Cross-Examination

Present Lotta's Deposition to Larry's 6th statement. Both Lotta and The Caretaker heard two gunshots. Larry then admits the he missed the second gunshot, because he was listening to the radio on his earphones. Has the "Legend of Larry" strike again? Continue to testify, anyways. Larry is allowed to give another testimony about his radio. This may not end well.

• It's lonely, being alone on Christmas Eve.
• That's why I was listening to an all-requests show on the radio, see?
• I was listening to it real booming loud, like.
• But I'm sure I heard that gunshot!
• I remember exactly what the DJ was saying when I heard it, too.

Larry was hearing it at high volume. Karma says that Larry was hearing a drum beating. Phoenix objects to this. The DJ was talking, so no music was playing and Larry must have heard the gunshot. Phoenix would like to cross-examine. The Judge agrees.

What Larry Heard: Cross-Examination

Press Larry on his 5th statement. The Judge asks if we should care, choose We should care and The Judge then allows Larry to add a statement.

• Just when she said "Hey! It's almost Christmas!" I heard the gunshot!

Present Lotta's Deposition on that statement. The DJ said "It's almost Christmas!" When Larry heard the shot. This means it was sill Christmas Eve when he heard it. In the other two testimonies, Lotta and The Caretaker said it was after midnight when they heard the shots, meaning it was Christmas by then. Karma says that the witness was mistaken. Choose Larry's right. Karma wants proof. Present the Second Lake Photo to the court. It reveals the photo was taken just before midnight. It looks like Larry did hear it. The photo was used to detect loud noises. The loud noise occurred on Christmas Eve. Karma objects, saying there is no proof that the loud noise was a gunshot. Present the Pistol to the court. Phoenix proves that the pistol might have fired three times rather than two. But this leaves the Judge wondering what really happened. Karma asks Phoenix to answer why there two shot 25 minutes apart.

Phoenix thinks for a moment, and then finally figures something out. There was a shot 15 minutes after midnight, however, it turns out that Robert Hammond was already killed by then. Karma then asks if that wasn't the victim on the boat, then who? Answer, Edgeworth and the murderer. Phoenix assumes that the murderer assumed the guise of the victim and met Edgeworth. It seems that the murderer called Edgeworth, as Edgeworth couldn't recognize his face that much. The Judge asks you to tell the murderer's name. Answer, I don't know, because he hasn't told you. Phoenix assumes The Caretaker as the murderer, and that the murder didn't took place in the lake. The Judge asks where. You'll automatically Examine the Gourd Lake Map. Present the Boat shop (just below left of the van). Karma wants proof. Phoenix tells Karma to recall Larry's testimony. As Larry starts to go home, he heard the gunshot despite wearing earphones, thus, the gunshot was nearby. So, it could have been in the lake. The Judge tells Phoenix to make a summary of the night of the murder.

On 11:50 p.m., The Caretaker called Hammond to his shop. That's when he shot Hammond dead, as Larry was passing by. He then took Hammond's coat and called Edgeworth. At 12:15 a.m., the caretaker shot twice but missed. Karma asks you why. Answer, to create a witness. the caretaker fired one shot to ensure someone was looking out. He then shot the second time and then jumped in the lake to make it look like he was shot. He then swam back to his shop, put the coat back on the victim, and threw the body into the lake. The Judge calls the bailiff to retrieve The Caretaker.

While he waits, The Judge calls Edgeworth to the stand. Edgeworth says he received a letter from "Hammond" to meet him at the lake. The guard comes back with rather shocking news, The Caretaker is gone! Karma says a search is underway. The Judge then says he cannot say the verdict at this state and will extend the trail for tomorrow and adjourns the court for today.

Thanks to Larry, Edgeworth is saved once again. Another close one. Edgeworth however, still feels its far from over, as he had a nightmare for a crime he committed...

Day three: Investigation Mode

In the offices, Maya and Phoenix wonders what memory of murder is troubling Edgeworth, when suddenly Larry busts in to brag about his day in court. Talk to Larry:

Today's trial: Phoenix tells Larry he saved Edgeworth, but Larry fears Edgeworth isn't really guilty or not, and Phoenix believes in Edgeworth and Larry, but not Maya.

Edgeworth: Phoenix tells Maya that back in forth grade, when Edgeworth wanted to be a defense attorney, Phoenix was on class trial.

The class trial:. Back in 4th grade in the Spring. Edgeworth's lunch money was stolen during PE class. Phoenix left home with a cold, so he was accused. In the trial, his classmates were all shouting at him, the teacher called Phoenix to apologize, however, Edgeworth objects saying that Phoenix doesn't have to apologize without evidence, the kids don't believe him, but Larry intervenes, scolding the class for picking on Phoenix, despite the his innocence. The class finally quiets down and the teacher replaces Edgeworth's money herself.

Edgeworth's goals: Phoenix then reminds Maya that Edgeworth wanted to become a defense attorney and then he transferred from school. The transfer may have something to do with the DL-6 Incident. Several years later, Phoenix found Edgeworth's name on the newspaper as a prosecutor. He wanted to find out why, so he decided to become a defense attorney, so he can meet Edgeworth again since Edgeworth would come to face Phoenix someday. Phoenix, Larry, and Edgeworth all believe in each other. Phoenix saved Larry back, so it's time to do the same thing to Edgeworth.

Move to the Detention Center.

It seems Edgeworth doesn't remember the class trail either. Talk to Edgworth:

Why prosecute: Edgeworth tells you of his point of view of the DL-6 Incident. He suffered oxygen deprive, just like Yanni Yogi. The defense found Yogi innocent due to lack of evidence. Edgeworth hated defense attorneys and changed his mind and became a prosecutor instead.

Prosecutor von Karma: Edgeworth says he learned everything he knew was learned by Karma. Similar to Mia and Phoenix. Edgeworth says Karma has run nothing but perfect trails and every defendant he went against was found guilty, despite some being innocent. Even if he had a weakness, he would do everything to make it go away. Move to the Gourd Lake Entrance.

Gourd Lake Entrance

Gumshoe praises you for having a call even closer than yesterday. He also tells you that the Gourd Lake Woods is off limits, because a park ranger got mad about the camp. Move to the Boat Rental Shop. Along the way, you'll see that the balloon isn't in the public beach Larry must have missed work for the trail.

There, you'll hear a very familiar throat clearing. Looks like Grossberg is here. He tells you that he is just out for a walk. Grossberg tells you if you found anything, just stop by his office. Move inside the Caretaker's shack.

Caretaker's Shack

It looks like Polly is still here. Why would the caretaker leave him? Examine the safe (the green box in the left). You'll open it (you won't do the opening yourself), and you'll find an anonymous letter saying, "Get your revenge on Miles Edgeworth..." Revenge? It also describes everything you found out about in court. It looks like a very great clue. The Letter will be added to the court record. Move back to the Detention Center.

Present the Letter from the case to Edgeworth, who is shocked to see someone is taking revenge on him. It wasn't a innocent defendant he declared guilty. The letter says "Now is your time to get revenge on the two men who ruined your life." It probably means Edgeworth and Hammond. It also says "This is your last chance". Is it about the statute of limitations on the DL-6 Incident? Edgeworth wonders if the caretaker got the letter, and if he followed the instructions, then could he be Yogi, the suspect of the DL-6 Incident?

Talk to Edgeworth about Yanni Yogi. He then tells you that as the air thins on that elevator, Edgeworth is calling for help. When he came to, he soon found out that Yogi is questioned in his mental problems and was found innocent. If so, then why would Yogi get revenge? Edgeworth then tells you about the nightmare he mentioned today.

He had the nightmare all of his life since the incident. As the air thins in the elevator in the Incident, Yogi assaulted Gregory for "stealing his air". Worried, Miles picks up the pistol in the elevator and shoots a bullet. Then he heard a scream, which ended the nightmare, the scream that haunted him since. He wondered if it was only a dream, and if its real, than could he could be the one who shot his father? He then finally brings himself to admit that he accidentally killed his father. Maya then realizes that someone else probably knows about the incident.

Move to the Grossberg Law Offices.

You tell him about the dream. Grossberg then states that if Yogi wanted revenge on Edgeworth by framing him for murder, then it's probably from Edgeworth framing Yogi for murder, so the dream has to be real. Miles threw the gun to save his father. The pistol killed him of course. Talk to Grossberg:

Gregory Edgeworth: It turn out Gregory didn't have a peer. Just like Mia. He had a case against Karma. He lost of course.

The spirit medium: The police have Misty Fey call Gregory, who accused Yogi of killing him. Yogi was found innocent of course. Could he be lying to protect his son?

Present the Letter from the case to Grossberg, who then tells you that Hammond was a very skilled attorney. However he wins trials for his own sake, not for the clients. It turns out he only trusted his ability. When he declared Yogi innocent, he only did it for himself. Thats how Yogi was socially ruined, despite his freedom. Grossberg says you'll find out soon. He then claims he recognizes the handwriting on this letter. He asks you what you think it is. You have a choice. Choose Manfred von Karma. Grossberg then realizes you're right, as he sees Karma's reports all of the time. If Karma told Yogi what to do, then why would he frame Edgeworth?

Talk to Grossberg about prosecutor von Karma. Grossberg tells you that he may have known about Edgeworth's accident. How? Grossberg then tells you von Karma didn't leave the court "unscarred".

Talk to Grossberg about Gregory vs. von Karma. He tells you that after losing the trail, Gregory accuses von Karma of "faulty trail", the only penalty von Karma got throughout his career. Karma then took a vacation afterwards, the only vacation he has ever gotten through his career. It is highly likely Karma will bring up DL-6. And even if he hasn't, Edgeworth will plead guilty for the reason for today's case's murder. Phoenix knows he didn't kill his father, and so should you. Grossburg says theres a file of the incident in the Criminal Affairs Dept. Move there.

Criminal Affairs Department

You won't meet Gumshoe here, as he is still looking for the caretaker. A policeman does let you check the Records Room as Karma is in there just now... uh oh. Quick! Move to the Records Room!

Records Room

There, you'll notice a file open. Inside you'll see the DL-6 file is empty. You then face Karma himself. Talk to him about all of the available topics. He tells you that his grudge against Gregory is none of your business, and that Edgewworth will indeed admit his guilt. Present to Karma the Letter from the safe. Karma had told Yogi to burn it after reading. Looks like he wrote it all right. Before you can argue however, Karma knocks you and Maya out with a stun gun.

You both came to shortly afterwards, and of course Karma ran with the letter, and all of the DL-6 Evidence with it. Maya loses her self-confidence completely. She couldn't call her sister, nor can she protect you from Karma (she jumped him before he stunned you). Phoenix then sees something from her hand, the bullet that killed Gregory 15 years ago. When Maya jumped von Karma, she took the bullet from him. This could be your only hope for tomorrow's trail. The DL-6 Bullet will be added to the court record. With this, you may win the case tomorrow, and, hopefully, bring back Maya's self-esteem. With one piece of evidence on your hand, and many others on Karma's, you can really cross your fingers now.
