| Noivern's Flying/Dragon typing is shared by some of the game's most fearsome powerhouses like Dragonite and Salamence, but Noivern distinguishes itself with its incredible speed and unique movepool. With base 123 Speed, Noivern is the fastest non-Mega Dragon-type Pokemon, and it has a decent Special Attack stat that it can make use of with some of the strongest special attacks in the game in its arsenal. It also learns several excellent status moves, letting it function as a fast supporter. It can use Frisk to scout enemy items, or Infiltrator to strike right through enemy Substitutes. As mentioned before, Noivern's main issue is heavy competition from other Dragon/Flying types that see much more use. It also lacks bulk, so faster attackers can be a big problem.

| Like every special attacking Dragon-type in the game, Draco Meteor is Noivern's best STAB move, being an insanely powerful attack to wipe out Pokemon that doesn't resist it. Dragon Pulse doesn't drop Noivern's Special Attack unlike Draco Meteor, but it is a lot weaker, and Noivern needs all the power it can get. Hurricane and Air Slash are options for Noivern's Flying STAB move. Hurricane is an incredibly powerful but inaccurate, while Air Slash is really weak but lets Noivern abuse its speed to flinch the enemy. Flamethrower is a strong coverage move primarily for hitting Steel-types that resist both of its STAB moves. Boomburst is another ridiculously powerful attack without any drawbacks and can hit through Substitutes if Noivern isn't using Infiltrator, though it doesn't provide much type coverage. Super Fang wears down special walls with fixed damage, while U-turn lets it maintain its team's offensive momentum. For utility moves, Noivern has a fast Taunt or, if using a choice item, Switcheroo to disrupt supports. Roost gives Noivern reliable recovery, and Tailwind temporarily boosts the speed of its party.
