Carlie can learn healing spells right from the start which makes you much less dependent on items. Her different classes have a variety of different spells including Saber spells, Black Curse, and several different damaging spells.

Starting Class: Cleric

Tech: Bonkle

Spells

  • Learns
    • Heal Light - Single Target
    • Tinkle Rain - Single Target

Her physical attacks are weak, and she doesn't have any damaging spells, but since she is the only character that can heal before getting a class change, she is still quite useful.

First Class Change

Light: Priestess

Tech: Jump - Single Target

Spells

  • Starts with
    • Tinkle Rain - Single Target
  • Upgrades
    • Heal Light - Single/Multi Target
  • Learns
    • Holy Ball - Single Target
    • Diamond Saber - Single Target
    • Thunder Saber - Single Target
    • Flame Saber - Single Target
    • Ice Saber - Single Target

The Priestess learns Holy Ball which can do fairly good damage against Dark aligned opponents. Although casting Saber spells on herself does not help much, they are very powerful spells when used on her more physically strong allies.

Dark: Enchantress

Tech: Dash - Single Target

Spells

  • Starts with
    • Tinkle Rain - Single Target
  • Upgrades
    • Heal Light - Single/Multi Target
  • Learns
    • Unicorn Head - Single Target
    • Machine Golem - Single Target

The Enchantress gets some simple "summon" spells that call monsters to damage an opponent. While not nearly as useful as the Priestess' Saber spells on Fire, Ice, Earth, or Air aligned monsters, they are still fairly good.

Second Class Change

Light/Light: Bishop

Requires Item: Holy Water Vial

Tech: ChopChop - Single Target

Spells

  • Starts with
    • Heal Light - Single/Multi Target
    • Holy Ball - Single Target
    • Diamond Saber - Single Target
    • Thunder Saber - Single Target
    • Flame Saber - Single Target
    • Ice Saber - Single Target
  • Upgrades
    • Tinkle Rain - Single/Multi Target
  • Learns
    • Saint Saber - Single Target
    • Magic Shield - Single Target
    • Turn Undead - Multi Target

Saint Saber is very useful at the end of the game because many monsters are dark aligned. Turn Undead is a very powerful spell as well - it only costs 1 MP but it deals 999 damage to all undead monsters on the screen (and it does work on a few bosses). It is especially useful in the Mirage Palace (the dungeon you go to if Kevin or Carlie is the leader). Unfortunately, it does not work on Undead monsters who are a higher level than Carlie.

Light/Dark: Sage

Requires Item: Bottle of Salt

Tech: BoomBoom - Single Target

Spells

  • Starts with
    • Heal Light - Single/Multi Target
  • Upgrades
    • Tinkle Rain - Single/Multi Target
    • Holy Ball - Single/Multi Target
    • Diamond Saber - Single/Multi Target
    • Thunder Saber - Single/Multi Target
    • Flame Saber - Single/Multi Target
    • Ice Saber - Single/Multi Target
  • Learns
    • Saint Beam - Single Target

The Sage learns how to multi target all of the spells she learned as a Priestess. This isn't that useful really because Holy Ball is fairly weak at the end of the game and not really worth using and being able to multi target the Saber spells doesn't really save a lot of time. She also learns Saint Beam which is a decent spell but nothing spectacular (after all, Angela can learn it as a Sorceress - a second level class).

Dark/Light: Necromancer

Requires Item: Bottle of Ashes

Tech: Craaaazy - Single Target

Spells

  • Starts with
    • Heal Light - Single/Multi Target
    • Unicorn Head - Single Target
    • Machine Golem - Single Target
  • Upgrades
    • Tinkle Rain - Single/Multi Target
  • Learns
    • Ghoul - Single Target
    • Ghost - Single Target
    • Dark Saber - Single Target
    • Black Curse - Single Target

Among other things, the Necromancer learns Black Curse, a very useful spell that lowers all of the target's attributes. This can be a very effective spell against bosses since it both raises the damage you deal to them and lowers the damage they deal to you. She also learns some summon spells that call the undead to attack your enemies.

Dark/Dark: Dark Shaman

Requires Item: Bottle of Blood

Tech: HugeHuge - Single Target

Spells

  • Starts with
    • Heal Light - Single/Multi Target
    • Tinkle Rain - Single Target
    • Unicorn Head - Single Target
    • Machine Golem - Single Target
  • Learns
  • AntiMagic - Single Target
  • Gremlin - Single Target
  • Great Demon - Single Target
  • Demon Breath - Multi Target

The Dark Shaman is Carlie's most powerful offensive class (unless you are fighting the Undead, then the Bishop is). Demon Breath is a powerful spell that damages all enemies and lowers their magic defense, and Great Demon is Carlie's most powerful summon spell. AntiMagic is a good spell in theory; it removes spells such as Saber spells and stat boost spells from an enemy. Unfortunately, it doesn't see much use because very few bosses use such spells on themselves.
