Single-Player Cup

Nitro Grand Prix

The Nitro Grand Prix is made of all new courses designed for Mario Kart DS. The four different cups are Mushroom, Flower, Star, and Special. Star Cup must be unlocked by getting Golds in the Mushroom and Flower Cups and Special Cup by getting another Gold in Star Cup. You must unlock Star and Special for each difficulty.

Retro Grand Prix

Retro Grand Prix is a sort of "greatest hits" collection of tracks from all other Mario Kart games. Here you will play on courses that were originally designed for Super Mario Kart (SNES), Mario Kart 64 (N64), Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA), or Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GCN). The four different cups are Shell, Banana, Leaf, and Lightning. Leaf Cup is unlocked by getting Golds in the Shell and Banana Cups. Lightning Cup is unlocked by then getting a Gold in Leaf Cup. You must unlock Leaf and Lightning for each difficulty.

Single-player missions mode

Single-player missions mode is a six-level game play mode. Here, the player must complete a series of missions and a boss battle to complete a level. The mission objectives range from collecting coins to fighting in boss battles, all on a variety of different race tracks and battle maps. Just like in Grand Prix mode, the player is ranked on how well he/she performed on a scale of C to three stars, C being the worst rank and three stars being the best rank.
