When playing on the DS, you can choose between stylus play and using buttons.
The DS version can be played entirely with {{Ds|Stylus}} besides using buttons; simply point to and click the desired option on the touchscreen. [[../Episode 5: Rise from the Ashes|Case 5]] is the only case that requires {{Ds|Stylus}}, along with {{Ds|X}} and {{Ds|Y}} to zoom in/out while checking evidence.
