Controls[edit]

  • Select button and Start button: Use SELECT to move the 1983-style Nyamco cursor on the title screen to the mode you want to play, and START to begin it; as with the first Famicom title in the Mappy series, Mappy-Land, you can also push START during gameplay to pause, and push it again to resume.
  • Neutral dpad: Use the D-Pad to walk left and right, and climb up and down various objects; for the "Push Off" minigame, it controls the direction of your push.
  • A button: Use the A button to jump; if you repeatedly press it while falling, it shall slow your descent (similar to the Mario Brothers' Raccoon and Tanooki Suits from Super Mario Bros. 3). In the "Flags" minigame it raises the red flag - and in the "Push Off" minigame, it is used to push on your opponent.
  • B button: Use the B button to kick out at the enemies and open the boxes; in the "Flags" minigame it raises the white flag. In the "Push Off" minigame, it is used to stand straight - but you must only hold it down for long enough to continue the pushing once that opponent has brought his back in again.

Items[edit]

  • Coin, Ring, Crystal and Money Bag: When you collect one of these items, they will add 100, 1000, 2000 and 10000 Yen to your total respectively; in two-player mode, the coins are worth 200 Yen and there are also winged boots which can be collected for special types of kick attacks. However, enemies sent spiralling or zigzagging through the air by these kicks can, like sliding Koopa shells in Super Mario Bros., still injure you if they hit you.
  • P-Shirt: When you collect this item, it shall make you invulnerable for a short period of time; however, falling into a pit can still send you backwards.
  • Heart: When you collect this item, it shall restore some of your lost energy; if you completely run out of energy, you will die and get sent backwards. Each time you are hit, you shall also lose 5000 Yen in the form of a money bag that bounces away from you (but you can go after it and recover it) - and once half of your energy bar is drained, the picture of your mouse on the left (or right if you are Player 2) side of the screen shall begin flashing.
  • Rollerskates: After you collect these, they will increase your walking speed (along with your jumping height and distance) for a short period of time.
  • Rally-X Special Flag: When you collect this Namco icon (which transitioned to 16-bit in 1987 but reverts to 8-bit here), it will grant you an extra life.
