Weapons[edit]
It's a good strategy to equip most characters with ranged weapons, and just one with either melee or bludgeon weapon. The halberd and the magic axe are ranged and melee weapons at the same time.
Ranged weapons offer a great tactical advantage: if a swordsman (character with melee weapon) attacks an archer (character with a ranged weapon), the swordsman will be hit several times before he can land even a single blow.
On the other hand, if an enemy gets next to an archer, he'll prevent the latter from using his ranged weapon against any target, not only against the nearby enemies. The magic axe and the halberd don't have this drawback.
Ranged weapons[edit]
Arrows are necessary to use the bow and the magic bow; quarrels are necessary for the crossbow. The sling, the halberd and the magic axe require no ammunition. The magic axe can be equipped with a shield.
The halberd can hit enemies beyond a rock or an obstacle.
Weapon | Weight | Attack | Range | Cost | Shops | Island shops |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sling | 2 | 6 | 4 | 13 | Britain | - |
99 arrows | - | - | - | 13 | Britain | Bordermarch |
99 quarrels | - | - | - | 19 | Britain | Serpent's Hold |
Bow | 8 | 10 | 7 | 98 | Britain | - |
Crossbow | 6 | 12 | 8 | 196 | Britain | Serpent's Hold |
Halberd | 18 | 30 | 2 | 250 | Trinsic | Serpent's Hold |
Magic bow | 0 | + | 10 | 1048 | Britain | Bordermarch |
Magic axe | 0 | + | 10 | 1310 | Yew | Bordermarch |
Note: there's a free magic axe in Jhelom. Get on the city walls, climb down the stairs in the north-eastern tower, open the secret door in the north-eastern corner, walk along the external walls, search inside the tree stump.
Melee weapons[edit]
Some of these weapons can be thrown, but in that case they will be lost. Single-handed weapons can be equipped together with a shield or with a different single-handed weapon.
If a character equips two single-handed weapons, he can attack twice per turn.

Bludgeon weapons[edit]

These weapons are only recommended for characters with either high strength or whose dexterity is much lower than their strength, i.e. Geoffrey, Sentri and Dupre.
The Spiked Shield and the Spiked Helm allow a second and a third attack, if equipped together with another weapon.
