Wood Man's stage is a forest inhabited by robots that resemble wildlife, such as robot bats called Battons, mechanical hares caled Robbits, and atomic chickens called Cooks. The Metal Blade is a useful weapon against almost all enemies, especially the bats which hang overhead and attack by flying down to collide with Mega Man. Also, it can be used to fire downward to destroy the mechanical apes called Monking before they jump onto the same platform as Mega Man. | Wood Man's stage is a forest inhabited by robots that resemble wildlife, such as robot bats called Battons, mechanical hares caled Robbits, and atomic chickens called Cooks. Wood Man begins by activating his leaf shield, which surrounds him with indestructible leaves. He will cause leaves to drift down from the top of the screen, which damage Mega Man on contact, and at the same time he will launch his leaf shield at Mega Man. The attacks can all be avoided by correctly timed jumps, but Wood Man keeps advancing towards Mega Man, making each subsequent attack more difficult to avoid.
The Atomic Fire (fully charged), Air Shooter, Crash Bomber, and Metal Blade all deal higher than normal damage against Wood Man.
*Atomic Fire (1, ??, or 14 damage), when fully charged, can kill Wood Man in one shot (U.S.) or two shots (Japanese). However, it is unable to penetrate Wood Man's leaf shield if it is active so you have to wait for him to fire it at you, then dodge, before you can attack.
*Air Shooter (4 damage) has the highest damage of a non-charged projectile, however it cannot penetrate leaf shield.
*Crash Bomber (2 damage) does considerable damage and it can hurt him even when Wood Man's leaf shield is active.
*Metal Blade (2 damage) does as much damage as Crash Bomber.
Defeating Wood Man awards Leaf Shield, which surrounds Mega Man with impenetrable leaves as long as he stands still. This shield becomes a projectile when Mega Man moves, firing off in the direction pressed on the D-Pad (even vertically!).
