Route 21 is the water route that connects Pallet Town to Cinnabar Island. Use Electric and Plant Pokemon to breeze through this simple route.
The tall grass of the northern part of the route has wild {{bp|Tangela}}, exotically exclusive in this secret-like area originally unknown before the Surf ability.

Be sure to hit up the grass on the northern part of the route if you're interested in catching a {{bp|Tangela}}, as it is the only Pokemon that spawns there.
If you took this route first, don't forget to tackle Routes 19 and 20, of course.

Tangela will only shine if it is caught with the {{bpa|Chlorophyll}} ability, which will power up its Speed in sunshine. Pair this ability with TM11 {{bpm|Sunny Day}} and TM19 {{bpm|Giga Drain}} or TM22 {{bpm|Solarbeam}}, and Tangela can become quite the Grass cannon.

Tangela is the only pure Grass Pokémon of the original 151 Pokémon. While it brings strong defense and Special Attack stats to the table, its moveset is bad.

Tangela will only shine if it is caught with the Chlorophyll ability, which will power up its Speed in sunshine. Pair this ability with TM11 Sunny Day and TM19 Giga Drain or TM22 Solarbeam, and Tangela can become quite the Grass cannon.
