Villages and towns

Puroro Town

This is the town where your dog lives. Every year there is a big festival with fireworks and a treasure hunt. This place is also home to quite a few other friendly dogs, and it is where you start your adventure to The Dog Island. There is only one building you can access; your home. There are a few Tools scattered around, including Colored Glass and a Beautiful Stone. You can sniff these out when you first start, or when you come back from The Dog Island the first time.

The dogs on The Dog Island all refer to Puroro Town as the big city, but it's much smaller and has less to do than Pupsville. It does have paved streets and big pier where El Dorado moors his ship, so it is a bit more metropolitan than the island villages in appearance if not in actuality. It's also notable that although this is considered the "big city," the doctor here defers to Potan out in a rural island.

Pupsville

Area map of Pupsville.

This is the biggest village on the island, home to Dr. Potan who can help to cure your sister. You can also meet Noble, the village Chairdog, who will let you use a house while you stay. There are plenty of dogs here who will need your help. You can buy accessories at Malshige's Shop, buy herbs at the Restaurant, or just say hi to the locals. You'll spend a lot of time in Pupsville not only due to the number of dogs that need help here, but also because this is where you grow your Anc Tree.

In the middle of the village is a grass circle where you plant the tree and it is surrounded by all the shops. The rest of the buildings are personal residences, and there are no buildings that can't be entered. At the end of the game you'll be in Pupsville and if you exit the village to Green Meadows, it's the end of the game. At that time various dogs who've you met throughout the game and who don't usually stay in Pupsville will be there so you can say goodbye to them. There are also quite a few dogs who either show up or leave at some point. Mostly this is explained through the plot, with the exception of Hans, who, if you don't see him in his house, is out looking for Template:Dientry or Template:Dientry paint in either Gola Highlands or Snow Village.

You'll also be spending some time here if you want to fill out the Collector books or make New Products. A nice feature of the village is that you have a house here where it doesn't cost any Woofs to rest up and heal all your hearts. Conversely, resting in Inns around the island costs 1 Woof. This is also where the Star Festival is held, which is a major event in the game and for which you must gather a variety of Special Items and become a Sniff Master.

Zoomy Village

Area map of Zommy Village.

This village is famous for its sniffing Dojo. Why not pay it a visit and become a pupil of Rode's? The village is also home to Victory Gang Dogs Clark and Kurtis. And once on a mission to find her, you can meet Elaine (Francis' friend from childhood) too. To get here you need to get past a large gap in Zoomy Lake (but there's no problem a little Hippo Food can't solve) and from here you get get to the Hoya Plains.

Gigili Village

Area map of Gigili Village.

Gigili Village is in a pit in the middle of the desert. You can race with Will, or go out into the Sandy Deserts. Remember to bring some of Obaba's antidote if you're getting close to Blue Snakes. You can meet Eisman (German for "ice cream") or frighten the Camels with your bark. To get here you will need to get rid of some Template:Dientry blocking the way to the desert.

Chiro Village

Area map of Chiro Village.

Chiro Village is a village built in a cave just beyond Gola Highlands. Once you have moved a rock blocking the way, you can go here and help out the dogs, or go into the Chiro Caves. According to a local Doberman named Balthazar, the dogs in this village have been digging around to see if there's any water underground.

Snow Village

Area map of Snow Village.

This is a village covered in snow. Help out the wanderer, Henry, or do some Sled Racing with Gordon. If you want, you can buy a Hot Drink to take with you into the Snowy Fields in case you get a bit cold. Or meet the locals, like the dancer, Linda, and the Husky, Sasha (who lives in "A House"). Don't forget to dress warmly.

Rune Village

Area map of Rune Village.

This is the last village you will come across. You can get here from Dry Valley and then check out the Rune Canyon or Caverns. Help Tancredi Template:Dientry his daughter gave him, or play Soccer with McCoy.

Outside areas

Green Meadows

Area map of Green Meadows.

At the beginning of the game, this is where you go to meet Yi Lu, who can teach you to sniff. It's also home to Bill, the former leader of the Victory Gang dogs, who can give you advice on how to stop their pranks. Isaki and his wife Sayori live here too, down at the beach. There is a lot to do in the Green Meadows, as it has very diverse wildlife, three fishing piers, lots of bugs and eventually even a circus and a doorway to mystical land.

Treely Woods

Area map of Treely Woods.

The place with the most trees (as you might have guessed) and a few Gorillas. Obaba, the healer, also lives here and Goliath the lumberjack can help if something needs fixing (or you want to get by that big log Template:Dientry to Zoomy Lake). Once it has been constructed, you can use a shortcut to get back to Pupsville. Treely Woods is also home to the most bug locations of any area on the island.

Zoomy Lake

Area map of Zoomy Lake.

This is a large lake at the south end of the island, where you can find plenty of dragonflies. Just try and avoid the Alligators while swimming around, and try to find some Hippo Food if you need to cross a gap to get somewhere. There is also a grave on the biggest island, right in the middle of the lake. It's not from someone you know, but it is important to a certain doctor.

Hoya Plains

Area map of Hoya Plains.

Hoya Plains has it all. Bugs, fish, trees, Giraffes... It even has a mob of Template:Dientry which you must get rid of if you want to get to the South Sandy Desert. You can fish for Yellowtail Kingfish (and a lot of other fishy things) or help your friends by finding a Map Stone to Template:Dientry with his sence of direction or a flower to drive those bees away from a Chihuahua who is having some trouble.

South Sandy Desert

Area map of South Sandy Desert.

Here you need to drink often and avoid the poisonous snakes (so carry some of Obaba's Antidote). You can see the pyramid or talk to the Sphinx when you need to do a test. Sniff around cacti and glowing things, but don't stay out for too long without getting a drink at the oasis!

North Sandy Desert

Area map of North Sandy Desert.

When you first come here, there's one thing you will notice right away: the constant sandstorm. So Template:Dientry from the Ash Tree is easier said than done. Remember to watch out for quicksand holes which suck you up and spit you out of the pyramid. After a while though, you'll meet a dog who can help you Template:Dientry and unblock the way to Dry Valley.

Gola Highlands

Area map of Gola Highlands.

High in this mountainous region lives the greatest sniff instructor in the land, Tao. His dojo can be found up on the highest cliff and, if you are good at learning scents and helping dogs, he can teach you to become a Grand Sniff Master. You'll have to find a way to unblock the bridge to Chiro Village, but gravity is on your side. With Bears, Gorillas, Snakes, Elephants and Giraffes, the Highlands are teeming with wildlife. Be sure to check out any caves if you're looking for Elephant Food.

Chiro Caves

This is the only underground village on the island. The dogs here have some complex machinery for mining and looking for water. It's cold in the dark recesses of the mountain where the sunlight never reaches, so you're sure to always find a dog near the fire. You can either head back outside to the Highlands, or venture deeper into the maze of caves leading north.

West Chilly Field

Area map of West Chilly Field.

Despite being cold enough to freeze a river, there are a few houses in the area. You only have to worry about Polar Bears here, so make sure you don't run near them. You can igloos and houses, but none of them can be entered. If you're spending a lot of time looking for things for dogs, spend a good amount of time in the hot springs. You can stay in until your temperature meter turns completely pink to double the normal amount of time you can spend out in the cold.

East Chilly Field

Area map of East Chilly Field.

This place is much like its partner to the west, with structures you can't enter, hot springs and roaming Polar Bears. Something new is a dangerous ice floe, across which you can only take certain paths. Bark at the penguin to startle him into running across the ice, then be careful to follow his route exactly. Any misstep and you'll find yourself back on the west side of the ice field. Don't worry about remembering the route for the way back; you can take the ledge that runs along the north wall.

Dry Valley

Area map of Dry Valley.

Dry Valley doesn't have much vegetation to speak of, and the critters here are especially nasty. There is only one path right through the middle of the area, but it is well guarded by an aggressive Buffalo, so you're advised to take a more circuitous route. Although it's dangerous in other ways, at least you don't have to worry about passing out from heat exhaustion like you do in the desert.

Rune Canyon

Area map of Rune Canyon.

This is the way to Kunka Ruins and it is patrolled by a bunch of Buffalo down its entire length, so be careful. Boris won't show up here until after you've Template:Dientry inside, so until then you'll have to run back and forth. If you're heading into the Ruins, try taking an Ancient Fish from the pond outside for good luck.

Rune Caverns

Area map of Rune Caverns.

This is a tiny area whose only purpose is to stop you from accessing the Ancient Grove until you obtain the Sniff Master Medal. The Gray Cobra in here is especially volatile, so be careful when you try to get around him. Although you can see fish swimming around in the pool behind the statue, there's no pier, so you can't find out what's in there.

This is the mysterious spot you search for throughout the game. It's here that the Legendary Flower grows, if you can find it. This place is like a garden and you can find every kind of flower here.
