The hoverboard is usually available to the player in a match where vehicles are used. It is accessed by pressing the same key that activates the translocator in Capture the Flag games. Pressing the key again dismisses the hoverboard, putting the player back on foot.

The hoverboard brings into existence a small skateboard-like platform that appears underneath the feet of the player. the platform floats above the ground. The player instantly is mounted upon it and may move at a faster speed than on foot. The player does not have any balancing issues while on the hoverboard; unless they are knocked off by damage, they will not lose their balance and fall off.

The hoverboard moves very slowly over water. The hoverboard may not be mounted if the player is in water over ankle-deep, although if the player can jump high enough out of the water, the hoverboard can sometimes be mounted.

Movement[edit]

The player moves the hoverboard using the normal movement keys. The hoverboard moves about as fast as the Goliath tank at its fastest speed, which is faster than the player can run on foot. Players can jump while hoverboarding, but cannot dodge. Players cannot use weapons while on a hoverboard, although they can carry node-buster orbs and enemy flags while hoverboarding.

The hoverboard will not turn in place while stationary; to turn you must be moving.

While riding a hoverboard, you can fall from greater heights without taking damage than if you were on foot. However, falling a long distances will cause damage and enough damage will knock you off the board, causing you to spend a few seconds recovering.

While riding the hoverboard, virtually any weapon damage at all will knock you off the board and render you helpless for a few seconds, so take care when riding it around lots of enemies.

Players cannot pick up powerups, orbs, or activate nodes while riding the hoverboard.

Special Abilities[edit]

A player on a hoverboard may use the secondary fire button to grapple onto a nearby vehicle. Once grappled, the player will be towed along behind the vehicle at whatever speed the vehicle goes, and through whatever terrain the vehicle traverses. Care should be taken by both the vehicle driver and the hoverboard rider that the hoverboarder does not sustain fatal damage whacking into obstacles at high speed due to reckless driving. Hoverboarders may grapple onto flying vehicles and be lifted into the air. To release a grapple, the secondary fire button must be pressed again.
