The link gun has two uses — offensive and building/repairing.

Weapon functions[edit]

Primary fire[edit]

  • Link primary shoots relatively slow moving bolts; which are very visible and usually easy to avoid in the open, but far more effective in confined space.

Secondary fire[edit]

  • Link secondary shoots a line of energy -but has a medium range.
    • Your team-mates' secondary fire is improved over and above doubling if you link to him
      • Secondary fire is an ineffective way of attacking nodes and cores
    • If you hit a target with link secondary, the line becomes less wavy and more solid.
    • If the target is a player, he will be "locked down", and cannot dodge or move as well as normal

Linking to a team-mate[edit]

This increases the power of his link gun

  • Your team-mates' primary fire will be twice as powerful
  • Your team-mates' secondary fire is improved over and above doubling if you link to him
  • This allows you to take better cover and concentrate on dodging and not worry about aiming.
  • It is particularly effective if your team-mate has double damage

Tactical uses of the Link Gun in Onslaught[edit]

  • The link gun is vital for all sorts of tasks. Use its ammo wisely
  • Primary fire is very effective to take out vehicles and nodes at a distance.
  • Secondary fire is relatively ineffective against nodes and vehicles.
  • The link gun secondary fire is the only way a player can repair damaged Vehicles and build nodes.
  • Linking to the first person to arrive at a node is the etiquette of online play; and is far more effective than everybody linking directly to the node.
  • Throwing the link gun when only 2-3 units of ammo is left; then re-stocking at a locker gives a player additional ammo.

Tactical uses of the Link Gun in Deathmatch[edit]

  • If the target is a player, he will be "locked down", and cannot dodge or move as well as normal
  • Primary fire to the side of an opponent who hasn't seen you and is fairly stationary is far more effective than is widely appreciated.

Counters to the Link Gun[edit]

  • It's mainly a matter of watching where your opponent is firing.
  • Close the distance if using a powerful weapon, or pull back if using a more accurate weapon.
