==Telling Time==
==Telling Time==
The in-game clock is different from a real clock because you probably won't play the game 72 hours straight (unless you really, really want to!). Roughly one minute of real time is about one hour in the in-game clock. Days and Nights change at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The number going around on the outside of the clock is the in-game time it is now. If it's daytime, the hour number will have a sun next to it and if it is nighttime, it will have a moon next to it. The 1st, 2nd, and Final days are shown in the middle of the clock. If you slow down time, then the color that is behind what day it is will glow blue instead of the usuall green. (Green means normal)There is a little sun icon that rotates around and around in a circle. Every time it completes a rotation, it will have been one hour.

==Messing with Time==
The in-game clock at the bottom of the screen tells what hour and day it currently is. The diamond in the center will either say "1st", "2nd", or "Final" to indicate the day. When the diamond is green, time is flowing normally. Playing the Inverted Song of Time will slow time and turn the diamond blue, indicating that the flow of time has slowed down to 30% of its normal speed. A small yellow sun icon rotates around the diamond, representing minutes. The hour icon, represented by the outer larger icon, changes when the smaller sun icon makes one full clockwise rotation around the diamond. This icon is a sun from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. and a moon from 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. When time is flowing normally, one game hour takes approximately forty-five seconds. Surrounding the day and minute indicator is the hour indicator, represented by a white semi-circle.
Link is the Hero of Time so he is allowed to mess with time. If you talk to the scarecrow either in the Shop in West Clock Town or the one in the Astral Observatory, he will tell you what you must do to twist time. (He will also allow you to go to the next 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. as well.) Below is what you must do to affect time.

If you need to take a break but don't want to restart from Day 1 when you come back, you can save using an owl statue. The save feature allows you to save all progress up to the point and quit the game. Link has a complete 72 hours before the world ends. Before it ends, you must warp back through time. 72 hours equal a total of three days and three nights spread evenly over 12 hours.

Telling Time[edit]

In-game clock at the bottom of the screen

Time Manipulation[edit]

Once you have the ocarina, you can change certain aspects of time by playing different variations of the Song of Time. These variations of the are as follows:

Song Notes Effect
Song of Time Right c A button Down c Right c A button Down c Returns you back to the Dawn of the First Day and saves the game.
Inverted Song of Time Down c A button Right c Down c A button Right c Slows time down, or returns time to normal flow if already slow.
Song of Double Time Right c Right c A button A button Down c Down c Sends you forward in time half a day.

If you return to the dawn of the first day, your progress will be saved and all side quests and dungeon completions will be reset. The Song of Double time has the same effect that dancing with the scarecrow has. It can be useful if a certain aspect of a side quest only occurs at a certain time of day.

What is Saved and Lost in Time?[edit]

The Song of Time, however, can't save everything. Many things Link obtained will be lost and have to be found again.

  • Masks
  • Boss Remains
  • Dungeon Maps & Compasses
  • Great Fairy's gifts
  • Any progress made in the Bombers' Notebook

Things that will be lost/reset[edit]

  • Ammunition (Arrows, Bombs, Bombchus, Deku Nuts, and Deku Sticks).
  • Bottled items.
  • People and events.
  • High scores.
  • Rupees in your pocket.

Owl Statues[edit]

Owl statues found around Termina

If you need to take a break but don't want to restart from Day 1 when you come back, you can save using an owl statue. To activate one, slash it with your sword, and it will activate by glowing, then spreading its wings. After you have activated it, you will be able to save the game at that point. The save feature allows you to save all progress up to the point and quit the game. When a file saved this way is loaded, the saved game will not be in the game's memory anymore; if the system is turned off, the saved game will no longer be there.
