The Kurak village

In-game map of the village. Buildings have been highlighted in red and white.

The Avatar starts the game in the Kurak village, inside Intanya's hut.

Talk to all the characters. In order to ask something, it is sufficient to type the first four letters of the keyword.

The Avatar can take any item he finds in any village. Unlike Ultima 4/5/6, there is no penalty for taking items that don't belong to you. Suggestions:

  • Equipment: bow and arrows are the best weapon early in the game; shields and spears are less useful; necklaces can be worn.
  • Food: no need to pick up any food, because Triolo carries more than enough already.
  • Useful items: some will be useful soon, other will be useful later; there are some heavy items that should not be picked up, but just used on the place.
  • Other: items with no apparent use.
Hut Equipment Food Useful items Other
Intanya's hut - 6 bunches of turnips, 1 bean, 2 bunches of bananas 20 yopo, 20 pinde, 20 chocolatl -
West hut 32 arrows, bow, spear - Folded skin[1], 15 emeralds 6 diamonds
Far west hut 20 arrows, bow, 2 spears, leather shield, jade necklace - - orchid
North-west hut 3 spears, 3 leather shields 10 berries, 7 tortillas - pouch

North-east hut 1 spear, 1 shield, 2 obsidian knives 1 roast pteranodon, 1 meat 1 dead eohippus[2] -

  1. The folded skin will be useful later
  2. Use the knife on the dead eohippus to get some portions of meat.

The Yolaru village

Dr. Rafkin's laboratory

Go back to the Yolaru village. From the beginning of the road, just walk south-east along the riverside. Cross the ford and walk south near tar pits and across a thick forest. When the forest opens up, walk south-east.

Hut Equipment Food Useful items Other
Laboratory Modern rifle, 30 rifle bullets, fire axe 1 meat 3 white jars (potassium nitrate or magnesium), 2 yellow jars (sulphur), 1 black jar (charcoal), soft clay pot, 1 emerald, fire extinguisher, metal bucket, mortar, 2 wire screens, metal hammer, scissors 2 skillets, pot, 1 diamond, key, liquor, camera, bucket w/10L of water,

The following table shows how to craft three items with the help of Dr. Rafkin. The bamboo sticks are not available yet, some other ingredients are available in small quantities only. Later you can get more.

Gunpowder Grenade Bamboo rifle

Ingredients:

  • branch ("use" any tree)
  • potassium nitrate (from crystals in caves) or white jars (in laboratory)
  • sulphur (near volcanoes) or yellow jar (in laboratory)

Tools:

  • campfire or firepit (in most villages)
  • wire screen (in the laboratory)
  • mortar (in the laboratory) or grinding stone

Procedure:

  1. Use a branch on a campfire or firepit to get charcoal.
  2. Use a wire screen to collect hot sulphur.
  3. If you have white, black or yellow jars, move the sulphur, the charcoal and the potassium nitrate (not the magnesium ribbons) out of the jars.
  4. Move charcoal, sulphur and potassium nitrate into a mortar.
  5. Use the mortar to get some gunpowder.

Ingredients:

  • 5 units of gunpowder
  • cloth (1 in Rafkin's hut in Yolaru village)
  • clay (or soft clay pot, found in the laboratory)
  • tar pits (between the laboratory and Kurak village)

Tools:

  • kiln or oven (in Kurak village)
  • knife (start) or scissors (in laboratory)
  • metal bucket (in laboratory)
  • digging tool

Procedure:

  1. Use a knife or scissors on a cloth to get some cloth strips.
  2. Use the metal bucket on the tar pits to get about 5L of tar.
  3. Use the tar on the strips to get tarred cloth strips.
  4. Use a digging tool on the ground to get clay.
  5. Use the clay to turn it into a soft clay pot.
  6. Use a kiln or oven on the soft clay pot to turn it into a fired clay pot.
  7. If you have 5 units of gunpowder, use the tarred cloth strips on the hard clay pot to get a grenade.

Ingredients:

  • Bamboo stick ("attack" a bamboo plant)
  • Gunpowder

Tools:

  • Dr. Rafkin's laboratory

Procedure:

  1. Go to the laboratory.
  2. Ask Dr. Rafkin to make a rifle.
  3. Move some gunpowder into the bamboo rifle.

Titchicatl, the Nahuatla city

From the east bank of the Yolaru village, follow the road south. At the first fork, if you go west you will reach Drum Hill: there is nothing to there right now. Back to the main road, continue south until you reach the Nahuatla city, Titchicatl.

DO NOT talk to the generic Nahuatla men: they will attack you. Be careful when you talk to the "glowing" Spector/Zipactriotl or Huitlapacti, or with Kipotli: ask a wrong question, and they will call the guards to attack you.

The Nahuatla currency is the emerald. You should have 18 emeralds already, found in the previous locations. Paxaptamac the weaver will buy 10 feathers for 1 emerald. You can use emeralds to buy equipment from Atlipacta the weaponmaker.

Weapon Price Atk Armor Price Def
Bow 2 emeralds 7 Leather armor 3 emeralds 4
12 arrows 1 emerald - Leather shield 1 emerald 2
Obsidian sword 3 emeralds 11
Obsidian knife 1 emerald 7

Note that "Zipactriotl" is just an alternate spelling of "Spector", with modified phonetics, as shown below:

S--PEC-T---OR
SI-PEC-TI--OL
ZI-PAC-TRI-OTL
