Once in Topple, return the book to the boy, and speak with the grandfather - he will give you an '''escape rope''', which will pull you out of whatever dungeon you're in to the last save point you used.  The grandfather will also offer to let you rest up at their place (now, why would an old man want an innocent young lady to sleep in the one bed in the entire house?... *shrug*).  Just agree and leave.

You can save your game at the golden save statue in the village, and head towards the exit that leads to Cascade Cottage (the northeastern exit).  You will be accosted by the most annoying salesperson ever, and you are forced to buy the '''Popoi's Notebook''' for 10 Lucre.  The Popoi's Notebook records details about enemies and records maps... somehow... in there.  Go into the house closest to you afterwards, and talk to the guy inside.  He mentions something about the young man that had recently helped you out asking about Sir Bogard...  Therefore, you must rush back to Cascade Cottage!

Now you have to return to Topple — you probably remember the way back, and if not the path is pretty linear, and you can't get to Wendel at the moment. The Hero will run off.

Once in Topple, return the book to the boy, and speak with the grandfather — he will give you an escape rope, which will pull you out of whatever dungeon you're in to the last save point you used. The grandfather will also offer to let you rest up at their place. Just agree and leave.

You can save your game at the golden save statue in the village, and head towards the exit that leads to Cascade Cottage (the north-eastern exit). You will be accosted by the most annoying salesperson ever, and you are forced to buy the Popoi's Notebook for 10 Lucre. The Popoi's Notebook records details about enemies and maps. Go into the house closest to you afterwards, and talk to the guy inside. He mentions something about the young man that had recently helped you out asking about Sir Bogard…Therefore, you must rush back to Cascade Cottage!

Save, and head off to Cascade Cottage.
