Purple Materia

Purple Materia acts independently and is generally very specialized in its use. In some cases, the materia becomes useless after its use in the game, e.g. the Underwater materia is only useful when you are fighting Emerald WEAPON, once defeated that materia is essentially useless.

  • Chocobo Lure: Attracts chocobos to battle while in their habitat. Chances increase as materia matures. Also adds Luck +01.
  • Counter Attack: Counter attacks with physical strike when character is attacked. Chances increase as materia matures.
  • Cover: Equipped character will take damage on behalf of ally when they are attacked. Chances increase as materia matures. Also adds Vitality +01.
  • Enemy Away: Decreases chance of random enemy encounters. Effectiveness increases as materia matures. Also adds Luck +01.
  • Enemy Lure: Increases chance of random enemy encounters. Effectiveness increases as materia matures. Also adds Luck -01.
  • EXP. Plus: Equipped character gains extra EXP after successfully winning a battle. Effectiveness increases as materia matures. Also adds Luck +01.
  • Gil Plus: Adds extra Gil after battles. Effectiveness increases as materia matures. Also adds Luck +01.
  • HP Plus: Increases maximum HP as materia matures.
  • HP <-> MP Switches equipped character’s HP and MP.
  • Long Range: Allows the strength of a front row attack from the back row. Can also hit flying enemies that are otherwise out of reach. (Note that most of Barett's, Yuffie's, and Vincent's weapons are inherently long range so it is pointless to equip this on them.)

  • Mega All: Changes Attack to Slash-All and allows abilities that would only allow a single target to effect entire parties. Number of uses increases as materia matures.
  • MP Plus: Increases maximum MP as materia matures.
  • Pre-emptive: Allows side-attacks and surprise-attacks. Chances increase as materia matures. Also adds Dexterity +02.
  • Speed Plus: Increases dexterity stat of equipped character as materia matures.
  • Underwater: Allows character to breathe underwater, eliminating the twenty minute time limit for the battle with Emerald Weapon.
