Wii U VC allows you to customize controls outside of dpad. Be sure to map the minus button on VC menu and right stick as C buttons.

Move the analogue stick or circle pad while pressing for different attacks. Hold and charge to do a spin attack.

While locked on, use to attack, or to talk.
The Targeting system can be configured on the options menu of the game select screen. Switch Mode, which is tapping the button, is good for beginners and Hold mode, which is holding the button, is challenging for veterans.
