The Mario series is a collection of games developed by the Nintendo EAD and many third-party developers such as Hudson Soft and Intelligent Systems. The series is a spin-off of the Donkey Kong series, starting with the arcade game Donkey Kong. The series has anything from side-scrolling games to old-fashioned RPG to racing "karts". Almost every game stars the iconic plumber Mario, who is in turn known for his red cap with an M on it. He has a brother named Luigi. Mario usually saves Princess Peach of Mushroom Kingdom, who is usually kidnapped by Bowser. He always ends up defeating Bowser, and his minions. He once defeated King Boo, and then gets kidnapped, with Luigi having to save him. The series is one of the most popular series in the world, with the game Super Mario Bros. getting record breaking sales until the release of Wii Sports, with both being packaged with the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Wii respectively.
