Gems are pieces of precious material (typically ember ore) that can be inserted into slots in weapons, armor or trinkets, to produce a specific effect when the host item is equipped. Often, a given gem will have an offensive effect when placed in a weapon's slot, and a defensive effect when placed in an armor or trinket slot.
Gems can be bought and sold from the female gem merchant in town. They can also be transmuted.
