Shop requires you to enter the correct sequence of button presses to complete each class. The actions required are rotating either clockwise or counterclockwise, and tapping face buttons.
Shop follows the same "three strikes" rule as Art and Chemistry- you are allowed two mistakes, but on the third you will fail the class and have to repeat it. However, each sequence is not randomly generated, they are quite short, and never require the shoulder buttons.
However for Wii owners, just like Chemistry, you need to do more than push buttons. You will need to shake the and when it prompts you to do so.
Passing each shop class will unlock a new BMX bike, which will replace the current BMX in your garage.
