Similar to Doga, Unei is another strong magic user, so keep the formation from above. She alternates two attack spells and one defensive spell, therefore this fight will be a bit easier than the previous. Unei casts: WhiteWind (instead of Break), that reduces the target's health to less than 10 HP; Blizzard (instead of Quake), that attacks all heroes with ice; Barrier (instead of Drain), that increases her magic defense.

As soon as you leave the Cave of Shadows, Doga contacts you telepathically. He summons you to his manor to give you the keys to Eureka and to the Crystal Tower.

Doga's Grotto

  • Note: "grotto" is a mispelling of the Italian word "grotta", meaning "cave".

Before starting this quest, make sure you have some Softs/Gold needles in your inventory: one of the bosses can petrify the heroes. Return to Saronia, get off the Invincible and get onboard the Nautilus, then head to the Dalug continent and Doga's manor.

As soon as you enter the manor, Doga and Unei teleport you to the Doga's cave. This dungeon is on three levels, and it cannot be accessed again after it is cleared. The first floor has many branches. The short route is to the south-west, i.e. take the right at the first fork and left at the subsequent ones. Enter the door and you are in the corridor, where there are two chests containing a total of 40000 Gil. On the second floor there are branching paths as well, but there are rooms at the end of them. In the rooms you can collect four shining curtanins. The third floor is a straight path to the room where Doga and Unei attack you.

The only monster worth paying attention is the Nemesis, who can confuse the party members.

  • Note: in the NES version, the Geomancer's Terrain behaves in a peculiar way in Doga's cave. Its effect is Earthquake on the 1st floor, Sinkhole in the corridor of the 1st floor, Tornado on the 2nd floor, Landslide on the 3rd floor and in the 2nd floor rooms.

BOSS: Doga

NES version

Doga attacks using magic only and he is extremely resistant against magic attacks (including the Gomancer's terrain), therefore you sould move all your characters to the front row and attack using the weapons. Doga attacks alternating three spells: Break2 petrifies one hero; Drain damages one hero and heals Doga; Quake attacks all heroes.

BOSS: Unei

NES version

Similar to Doga, Unei is another strong magic user, so keep the formation from above. She alternates two attack spells and one defensive spell, therefore this fight will be a bit easier than the previous. Unei casts: WhiteWind (instead of Break), that reduces the target's health to less than 10 HP; Blizzard (instead of Quake), that attacks all heroes with ice; Barrier (instead of Drain), that increases her magic defense.

After you defeat both Doga and Unei, talk to them and they will give you the keys to access the forbidden land Eureka (from Doga) and the upper floors of the Crystal Tower (from Unei). Go back in Doga's Manor and search the bookshelves for a Hi-Potion.
