The Nintendo DS is Nintendo's current generation high-end handheld. It features dual screens arranged vertically, a touch-sensitive screen for input, 3D graphics approximately on par with the Nintendo 64, and backwards compatibility with Game Boy Advance games.

The Nintendo DS Lite was announced on January 26, 2006. Many people complained that the original Nintendo DS was too bulky; Nintendo fixed this problem with the Nintendo DS Lite, making it much sleeker. It was released in Japan on March 2, 2006, and released in the US on June 11, 2006. The Nintendo DS Lite also has brighter screens than the original DS with different levels of brightness.
