'''Super Smash Bros. Melee''' is the sequel to the popular [[1999]] [[Nintendo 64]] fighting game [[Super Smash Bros.]]. Like the original, it features a cast of [[Nintendo]] characters (25) and a collection of Nintendo-themed arenas (29) for battle with up to four players. Its broad appeal and involved multiplayer mode, improved quality and added features make it a popular title to this day. International tournaments for this game have been held worldwide with competitors from several nations including the U.S. and Japan.

With a total of twenty-five nintendo-based characters(including the hidden ones), there can be some confusion as to which is the best character for you and what each one can do. That is what this section is about. Every character in the game will be discussed in detail, including an overall view, cons and pros, unique moves, and more. Hopefully any questions you have right now about the characters will be answered right here. The characters will be split by starting characters and hidden characters. The format of each characters description will lay out like this.

Mario has been at the forefront of Nintendo for a long time. He always has a problem with keeping the princess safe from Bowser. Mario first starred as "jump man" in Donkey Kong where he simply had to go through three stages and save the princess in each. Since then Donkey Kong has gone his own way and Bowser took his place in Super Mario Bros. for the original NES. Mario set the standard for 2d platformers, until, of course, Super Mario 64 where he set the standard for 3d platformers. Now he stands to fight against all the other big Nintendo stars and doesn't do to bad really.

Super Smash Bros. Melee is the sequel to the popular 1999 Nintendo 64 fighting game Super Smash Bros.. Like the original, it features a cast of Nintendo characters (25) and a collection of Nintendo-themed arenas (29) for battle with up to four players. Its broad appeal and involved multiplayer mode, improved quality and added features make it a popular title to this day. International tournaments for this game have been held worldwide with competitors from several nations including the U.S. and Japan.

Gameplay[edit]

Compared to the original Super Smash Bros., Melee moves much more quickly. With the addition of the Wave Dash exploit, the game became much more technical and comparable to a traditional 2D fighting game. However when Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released the Wave Dash glitch was not re-added (probably to keep the game more simple). With the many changes that appeared in the new version, many of the Melee gurus continue to promote it rather than Brawl (often citing balance issues and move set changes as poor revisions) even though many of these features can be turned off (such as Final Smashes).
