Super Smash Bros. Melee is a sequel to the title Super Smash Bros. Released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64. It is a popular fighting game where up to four players can choose a Nintendo character and fight an a Nintendo-themed arena. The game was based on the original formula, while improving visuals and overall quality. Super Smash Bros. Melee is still one of the most popular multiplayer titles for the Gamecube.
Controls
- Control Stick: move character/jump
- How far and fast you tilt the control stick affects how fast you will move.
- Tapping the Control Stick up will make you jump.
- Tilting the Control Stick down will make you duck or drop through a floating platform.
- A Button: standard attack
- Pressing A repeatedly will do a combo.
- Rapidly pressing A will do a side attack quickly and repeatedly that is hard to escape.
- A Button + Control Stick: strong attack
- This will create stronger attacks rather then attacking with just the A Button.
- Tilting the Control Stick up, down, left, or right will make your character attack in that direction.
- Tapping the control stick quickly up, down, left or right will make you do a strong smash attack in that direction.
- Doing a standard strong attack in the air will do an arial attack that can be directed in four ways.
- B button (+ Control Stick): special attack
- Pressing the B button will do a different special attack for every character.
- Pressing the B button and the control stick up, down, or to either side will also do a different special attack for ever character.
- See the individual character for specific special attacks
- X and Y Buttons: jump
- jumping with the X and Y buttons is usually easier then using the control stick
- L and R Buttons: Dodge/Shield
- Z Button: Grab
- C-Stick: Smash Attacks
- The C-Stick can also be used to do smash attacks but is usually considered to be a cheat and is mostly only used by beginners.
- D-Pad: Taunt
