Return to Oblivion introduction

Horses

Overall

In Oblivion due to the fast travel system there is very little need to actually travel the countryside. People who are into Roleplaying often opt to use a horse to take the scenic route, literally. There are also quests that point where to go, but do not allow you to fast travel. In both of these cases horses are much better than walking. Oblivion gives you several horses to either purchase or get by special means.

Paint Horse

Bay Horse

Chestnut Horse

White Horse

Black Horse

Special Horses

Prior Mabel's Horse

During the main quest you receive Prior Mabel's Horse at Weynon Priory. Prior Mabel's Horse shares the speed and appearance of a normal Paint Horse it's just free.

Shadowmere

Somewhat late in the dark brotherhood quest series you'll be rewarded with Shadowmere the best horse in the game. This horse fights more fiercely then other horses and also runs faster than even a Black Horse. Also as the only named horse it's invulnerable (it can only be knocked unconscious.) By far the best horse in the game this is an excellent reason to slaughter numerous innocents for the Dark Brotherhood.
