Many years ago, a wealthy family in Kakariko Village was cursed for their greed and were thus turned into Skulltula monsters. In order to break the curse, Link must destroy all one hundred of the scattered about Hyrule and collect the  Gold Skulltula Tokens that they drop as proof of his deed. When a certain number of Gold Skulltulas have been destroyed, a family member will return to human form and reward Link for his trouble.

A Gold Skulltula resides in every patch of soft soil in Hyrule except for the one next to the bean selling man in Zora's River. To evict the Skulltula from its burrow, empty a nearby.

To capture bugs, look for rocks on the ground as they have the highest rate of causing bugs to appear. Pick up these rocks to release the bugs underneath and then quickly capture one with a bottle. You can also find bugs by cutting grass. Bugs are always found under the same rocks and grass and are not random. You can also buy them from potion shop for 50 rupees.

Gold Skulltulas can also be found inside crates and trees. Roll into either one to dislodge a Skulltula.

In the first basement, a Skulltula is climbing on a nearby grate. Use the to kill it, or slash it, then leap from the nearby ledge to claim the token.

In the fire maze room, enter the door (by which you play the in 67) to the central room. Use the to cross the fire to the other side. Hit the rusty switch with the , then climb the target beside the switch to jump over the fire wall to get down to the lower corridor. Here you can bomb a false wall to reveal the final Gold Skulltula.

In the room with the pool and the whirlpools, play the and Pierre will appear. onto him. You will notice a door blocked off by a chain. Go towards the waterfall and put on the and go in the hole. You'll eventually arrive in a small room with crates and a . Fight it and then break the crates. One of them has a . Use it on the door you saw earlier and you will arrive in a room with a switch and unlit torches. Hit the switch, get on the middle water pillar (for lack of a better term) and use . The torches will light and you can advance to the next room. But it's still not over! Kill all the in the room and Longshot up to the door that just opened. You will be back in the pool room. Break the crate with the Gold Skulltula but leave at least one crate alone. You will need it to Longshot your way out of the little trapped space, and voilà!
