Street Fighter (ストリートファイター (Sutorîto Faitâ)?) is a long running series of fighting games created and/or produced by Capcom. A Street Fighter game has been on at least one console every generation or in arcades since 1987, the year the first Street Fighter debuted. Most of the games focus on a six-button control setup (three punches and three kicks), a best-out-of-three match structure and special moves for each character. Various adaptations have also added combos, command moves (unique moves that aren't special moves) throws, super moves, ultra moves, parrying and character healing in various games.

The games usually focus on the various fighters who fight to suit their own motivations. These fights usually (but not always) take place in a tournament. The main character of the Street Fighter games usually changes between each series. Usually Ryu, a martial artist who constantly seeks to perfect his fighting style, is the main character. He and his rival/best friend/sparing partner, Ken have been in every Street Fighter since the first game. Other major characters include M. Bison, a cruel power hungry dictator, Sagat, a powerful Muay Thai fighter who Ryu scarred in the first tournament, Chun-Li and Guile, an Interpol agent and an air force pilot respectively who wanted revenge against M. Bison and Akuma, a powerful demonic fighter.

The series has spawned into movies, TV shows, OVAs, toys, clothes and other merchandise.
