The Dungeon of Time is located in a small valley surrounded by mountains on an island, and it is accessible only through the Moongates. It conceals the Time Lord, that reveals information necessary to clear the game. Anyway, the game can be cleared without entering this dungeon, if you already know what the Time Lord has to say.
The Dungeon of Time was renamed "Cave of Moon" in the NES version.
Time Lord
The Time Lord can provide you with vital information about your quest. You'll find him on the eighth floor of the Dungeon of Time. Strictly speaking, if you know already what he says (from a previous game or any guide), you don't actually need to talk to him to complete the game.
Mark of Fire
This mark allows to walk into lava. There are two places where this is necessary: the prison in Lord British's Castle and a large area in Death Gulch.
In the NES port, a temple in Yew is surrounded by lava, too.
