Welcome to all users! This page is where you can ask StrategyWiki-related questions to the staff and senior community figures, and they will do their best to answer. If you want to raise a topic for discussion (rather than just ask about it), please use the community issues forum instead. New issues are entered here, with the most recent at the bottom of the page. If your question does not pertain to editing StrategyWiki (e.g. asking for hints or game-specific information), please ask on the guide's talk page or on the forums.

Please review the Table of Contents to see if your issue has already been raised; also check the archives (to the right) in case it was discussed some time ago.

To facilitate ease of browsing and replying, please:

  1. Place your question at the bottom of the list.
  2. Title the question (by placing the title between equals signs: ==Title==).
  3. Sign your name and date (by adding four tildes: ~~~~).

Controler selecting for Wii/Gamecube shared games

Hey sorry to bother you guys but i have been trying for awhile now to figure out how to select the GameCube controller under the Zelda: Twilight Princess walk-through. kinda important because its default on Wii controller and everything is opposite in the GameCube version so west in Wii is east on GameCube and i saw under edit that there's 2 answers depending on what controller you picked but i pick GameCube on the picture but nothing changes and when i go to the next page it says Wii is selected again so i'm not sure how to save the setting or even work that in editing. Thanks for anyone who takes time to help me get the proper walk-through information to show up :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Killa420 (talkcontribs) .

First, remember to sign your posts by putting ~~~~ at the end (hit preview before submitting to make sure it appeared if you're not confident). Secondly, feel free to add information outside of the tags if you are confused/not comfortable with the formatting. It is easy to just add something like: "Gamecube note: go west here." and someone can clean it up later. However, since that adds more work for people down the line it is better to try and figure this out, so thank you for your interest.
I apologize if this gets confusing, but just ask questions and play around with the pages to figure it out. The {{control selector}} at the top of the will display anything in the {{control}} template tags depending on which parameter is selected. {{control}} is used in conjunction by putting in as many different types of content (e.g. controllers) as separate parameters, but the number of parameters should match the number of parameters in {{control selector}}. So, in this case we have GameCube and Wii so the syntax is like {{control|Wii content|GameCube content}} (for Twilight Princess, Wii content comes first because the Wii game was released before the GC game). Now, make sure you can visualize this template use. Think about it like {{control|Parameter 1|Parameter 2}}. Since we made Wii content come first, if Wii is selected, then Parameter 1 content will appear. If GameCube is selected, Parameter 2 will appear (again, this is just because we put Wii before GameCube in control selector; the order is specific to how control selector is set up on a given page).
Now, the main reason you may not see alternate content is this: it doesn't exist! {{control}} may not even be used where you would expect GameCube content to be, thus, guide pages with {{control selector}} are much more difficult to fact check. Please add {{control}} and alternate content if necessary! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:15, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Try and save a sample of what you're trying to do in the StrategyWiki:Sandbox. That way you can see how it would show up after saving, and people can correct it there. -- Prod (talk) 14:53, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
No, I think the problem he's having is that he doesn't realize that the controller selection box is at the top of each individual walkthrough subpage. You don't set it once on the main walkthrough page, you actually go to each chapter of the walkthrough, and at the top of the page, set the controller selection to the system you are interested in. For example, if you go to The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess/The_Beginning, you will see the controller selector at the top right, just below the page header. Just click the system name, and select the desired system from the drop-down menu. Once you do, the page will dynamically adjust to show the appropriate controller buttons provided that someone has added them to the walkthrough text. Procyon 19:51, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
