Hey sorry to bother you guys but i have been trying for awhile now to figure out how to select the GameCube controller under the Zelda: Twilight Princess walk-through. kinda important because its default on Wii controller and everything is opposite in the GameCube version so west in Wii is east on GameCube and i saw under edit that there's 2 answers depending on what controller you picked but i pick GameCube on the picture but nothing changes and when i go to the next page it says Wii is selected again so i'm not sure how to save the setting or even work that in editing. Thanks for anyone who takes time to help me get the proper walk-through information to show up :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Killa420 (talk • contribs) .
- First, remember to sign your posts by putting ~~~~ at the end (hit preview before submitting to make sure it appeared if you're not confident). Secondly, feel free to add information outside of the tags if you are confused/not comfortable with the formatting. It is easy to just add something like: "Gamecube note: go west here." and someone can clean it up later. However, since that adds more work for people down the line it is better to try and figure this out, so thank you for your interest.
- I apologize if this gets confusing, but just ask questions and play around with the pages to figure it out. The {{control selector}} at the top of the will display anything in the {{control}} template tags depending on which parameter is selected. {{control}} is used in conjunction by putting in as many different types of content (e.g. controllers) as separate parameters, but the number of parameters should match the number of parameters in {{control selector}}. So, in this case we have GameCube and Wii so the syntax is like {{control|Wii content|GameCube content}} (for Twilight Princess, Wii content comes first because the Wii game was released before the GC game). Now, make sure you can visualize this template use. Think about it like {{control|Parameter 1|Parameter 2}}. Since we made Wii content come first, if Wii is selected, then Parameter 1 content will appear. If GameCube is selected, Parameter 2 will appear (again, this is just because we put Wii before GameCube in control selector; the order is specific to how control selector is set up on a given page).
- Now, the main reason you may not see alternate content is this: it doesn't exist! {{control}} may not even be used where you would expect GameCube content to be, thus, guide pages with {{control selector}} are much more difficult to fact check. Please add {{control}} and alternate content if necessary! --Notmyhandle (talk • contribs) 18:15, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

- Try and save a sample of what you're trying to do in the StrategyWiki:Sandbox. That way you can see how it would show up after saving, and people can correct it there. -- Prod (talk) 14:53, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- No, I think the problem he's having is that he doesn't realize that the controller selection box is at the top of each individual walkthrough subpage. You don't set it once on the main walkthrough page, you actually go to each chapter of the walkthrough, and at the top of the page, set the controller selection to the system you are interested in. For example, if you go to The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess/The_Beginning, you will see the controller selector at the top right, just below the page header. Just click the system name, and select the desired system from the drop-down menu. Once you do, the page will dynamically adjust to show the appropriate controller buttons provided that someone has added them to the walkthrough text. Procyon 19:51, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
- puh, seems Killa420 is right. controll selector isn't working anywhere. I tried with Chrono Trigger and Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time just now, but the buttons just won't change when i choose a different system. Paco (talk) 05:53, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
- Crap! Paco's right. Prod, halp!!! --Notmyhandle (talk • contribs) 16:17, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
- Fixed. A nice usability update would be to make it set a cookie or html5 local storage that tracked guide name and what value they had selected, so all pages then defaulted to the "correct" value. --Skizzerz 19:15, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you, Ryan! --Notmyhandle (talk • contribs) 17:23, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- Also, it would be cool if we could display in-line with other text what controller is dynamically selected and link back to the top of the page. In some cases, readers may forget that a controller was selected, or a reminder/pointer could be useful in helping them discover how to use it. E.g. You select a controller, then have some sort of variable or template to display the currently selected controller's label. Then you can say: "Controls for <controller label like Ninendo 64>: " --Notmyhandle (talk • contribs) 18:04, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Image Backgrond
Yesterdays and today i tried to upload File:Elnard 0440 RedTrick.png without background-color, but it still show the background-color. So i tried it again and suddenly the previous image has it background removed. I have no idea what went wrong here. Can someone take a look at it? Paco (talk) 09:04, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- The two files you uploaded appear to be identical. Usually when I see the background disappear it was because the second one I uploaded was using a cached version of the first, and then I refresh the page and the new one loads. In this case it looks like you uploaded the correct one twice, but you're saying yous aw it have a white background previously? Or what color? Odd. Maybe your browser didn't load the transparency correctly the first time. I don't think this is an issue unless it keeps happening. --Notmyhandle (talk • contribs) 17:22, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- It's the exact same! When i uploaded it first, it still had the gray background. After i uploaded it again, the old version had the background removed, but the actual still had the gray background. But the problem seems now solved. Sorry to have take up your time. Paco (talk) 09:59, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Unused Buttons
On one different matter i want to thanks Notmyhandle for dealing with the Logos. ^^ But i want to ask if the six Buttons (like File:Button strike.png and so) could be deleted safetly along with Najzere Spoiler Image? Can someone take a look at it? Paco (talk) 09:04, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think that button appears unused because we don't directly link to it, but it is used when you edit a page (notice the row of shortcut buttons to add wiki markup, it is there). We should start a page so that it can't be seen as orphaned. I added them to my images page at User:Notmyhandle/Images#StrategyWiki_images_that_are_not_mine_but_should_not_be_orphaned. However, to test this, we should replace one of the images with something of the same size to make sure it is the one in use (which is easier than searching for its use in the CSS). --Notmyhandle (talk • contribs) 17:14, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
