This page covers the Elite Monsters and Elite Boss system in monster maps.

Elite Monsters[edit]

Elite monsters are monsters which are 2 times the size of the normal monsters. They spawn at an approximate chance of 0.5% per monster killed (1% during Elite Monster Burning Time). This means that you can possibly get an Elite Monster to spawn after a few kills, conversely it is entirely possible not to have it spawn even after 1000 kills.

Rune of Darkness

Alternatively you can use the Rune of Darkness to instantly spawn 3 Elite Monsters at once.

Spawn Criteria[edit]

  • Attacking character minimum level: Highest levelled monster - 20
  • Attacking character maximum level: Lowest levelled monster + 20
    • Does not apply to monsters Level 180 or higher (to allow Level 200 or higher characters to be able to spawn their own monsters)
  • Spawn chance (Approximated): 0.5% at normal times, 1% during Burning Time
  • Spawn interval cooldown: 2 minutes at normal times, 1 minute during Burning Time.

Monster Stats[edit]

They have a specific skill which they can use. They also come with higher HP and damage as well as rewards. The sword colour above tells the difficulty of the Elite Monster.

Sword Colour HP relative to normal monsters EXP and Reward drop rates and meso rates
Yellow 30x 15x
Orange 45x 22.5x
Red 60x 30x

The Elite Monster drop the following items (at a 100% chance for Elite Monsters over Level 110).

  • Spell Trace
  • Honor Medals (Up till 2)
  • Potions (Based on monster level, maximum potion level is Reindeer Milk and Sunset Dews)
  • Equipments (with Rare to Epic potentials)

At a low chance the Elite Monster may drop precious items.

  • Golden Hammer 50%
  • Master Craftsman Cube (Occult Cube in MSEA)

For higher levelled Elite Monsters above Level 110, it can even drop the following precious items at a low chance.

  • Shielding Ward
  • Safety Scroll (Tradable within the account)
  • Clean Slate Scroll 5%
  • Meister Cube
Note that the item list may be inaccurate due to ridiculously low drop rates and that everyone who hit the Elite Monster for 1 damage or higher will receive their own rewards.

Elite Boss[edit]

Elite bosses are bosses which can spawn in monster maps. They are much bigger in size and they represent the Explorer branch jobs.

Spawn Criteria[edit]

  • Attacking character minimum level: Highest levelled monster - 20
  • Attacking character maximum level: Lowest levelled monster + 20
    • Does not apply to monsters Level 180 or higher (to allow Level 200 or higher characters to be able to spawn their own bosses)
  • Map Status: "You feel something in the dark energy..." for 4 times.
    • Spawn chance (Approximated): 0.5% at normal times, 1% during Burning Time
    • Minimum Waiting time after the 20th Elite Monster slain: 2 minutes at normal times, 1 minute during Burning Time.

Map Status[edit]

When an Elite Monster dies, there will be 2 possible messages that appear.

  • "The dark energy is still here. It's making the place quite grim." (Also known as Grim)
  • "You feel something in the dark energy..." (Also known as Dark)

Generally, on a fresh map, the Grim message will appear 16 times, followed by the Dark message for 4 times before the Elite Boss can spawn. After an Elite Boss is killed or after a server crash/maintenance, the map status is reset.

Elite Monsters that are spawned using the Rune of Darkness that are killed also counts towards the map spawn. If it is used and the map status goes beyond 20 Elite Monsters killed, the excess Elite Monsters Kill Count will be excluded.

The Elite Boss Fight[edit]

When it spawns, there is a 30 minute timer. Nearby maps in the same town area in the same channel will receive an on-screen notification that an Elite Boss has appeared on a specific map. The Elite Bosses have additional skills than the Elite Monsters.

Boss Stats[edit]

  • HP in relation to normal monsters of the same level: 200x
  • Resists all elements, including Physical
  • DEF rate same as mormal monsters
  • 30 minutes timer
  • 3 possible skills that Elite Monsters can obtain.
  • Unique Skills:
Elite Boss Job Branch Unique Skills
Warrior Cancel Weapon/Magic, Interprid Slash
Bowman Snipe
Magician Genesis, Blizzard, Meteor
Thief Phantom Blow, Final Cut
Pirate Headshot, Slashing

Rewards[edit]

Elite Bosses give EXP reward based on its level. It also drops Rare Treasure Chests and initiates Bonus Stage.

Rare Treasure Chests[edit]

An Elite Boss can drop up till 3 chests for a person.

  • 1 Chest for attacking the Boss for 1 damage or higher regardless of level.
  • 1 Chest for dealing the most damage (only Characters from 39 levels below the Boss till 29 levels above the Boss can obtain this box)
  • 3 Chests can only be obtained when a person kills the Boss fully (without any other person giving damages to it and with the above criteria)

When opened you can obtain 1 of the following items:

  • Clean Slate Scroll 10% (no destroy chance)
  • Protection Scroll (expires after 7 days)
  • Basic Additional Potential Stamp 20% (untradeable)
  • Intermediate Additional Potential Stamp 40% (untradeable)
  • Master Craftsman Cube/Yellow Cube (tradable within account for GMS, tradable for other servers, expires after 7 days)
  • Meister Cube/Purple Cube (tradable within account for GMS, tradable for other servers, expires after 7 days)
  • Chaos Scroll 60%
  • Chaos Scroll of Goodness 30%
  • Elite Boss Soul Shard (1 of 5 different types)
  • Occult Cube

You can only open up till 20 Boxes per day per account (9 per day per account for MapleSEA). Chests expire after 10 minutes upon obtaining it.

Bonus Stages[edit]

The map transform into a bonus stage, giving additional rewards (though they are mostly useless)

There are 3 possible stages and it gets transformed into 1 of them. After the bonus stage it returns to a normal monster map and monsters will start to regenerate.

The bonus stages can reward:

  • Potion (Conical flask): Reindeer Milk, Sunset Dew, Elixir. In stacks of 1 to 5.
  • Mesos (coin): Sparing amount based on monster level
  • Mesos (sack): More mesos than Meso (coin) bubble
  • EXP (1 arrow up): Sparing amount based on monster level
  • EXP (3 arrow up): More EXP than EXP (1 arrow up) bubble.
  • Weapon (sword): Weapons suited for the monster level range with Rare to Unique potentials. Maximum level: Utgard (Level 140)
  • Armor (shield): Atmors suited for the monster level range with Rare to Unique potentials. Maximum level: Pensalir (Level 140)
You can obtain up till 30 bubbles per bonus stage.
Level range to loot the bubbles
  • Maximum level: Lower levelled monster + 19
  • Minimum level: Higher levelled monster - 19
    • Does not apply to Elite Bosses Level 160 or higher.
Mimic Boxes[edit]

In this stage, you have 22 seconds to eliminate Mimic boxes using normal attacks. Every attack, it deals 777 damage to the chests and the chests can withstand 10 hits (7770 HP). Every time it gets knockbacked, it will throw up bubbles. Bubbles are individual so you have to hit the chests on your own to obtain your items. Use pick up key to loot the bubbles.

Note

For multi-line normal attacks, the mimic boxes will receive the relative additional damage but it will only throw up rewards equivalent to 1 attack. This is to a disadvantage to Demon Slayers, Dual Blades, Transformed Kaisers and Transformed Angelic Busters since their normal attacks deal at least 2 lines (so the mimic boxes receive more than 2 times the damage and so they die 2 or more times faster while giving inversely less rewards)

Flying Mimics[edit]

You have 22 seconds to touch as many bubbles as you can as mimics fly around the map and disperse bubbles. Touch the bubble using your character to loot. You may use mobility skills.

Free Fall[edit]

You have 22 seconds to touch as many bubbles as you can as bubbles fall freely from the sky. Touch the bubble using your character to loot. You may use mobility skills.

Recommendations[edit]

So, what is the most efficient way to hunt for Elite Bosses?

  • Well, there are maps which are very popular for training so you may want to spawn at those areas (of course this means other players will do the same too).
Plausible maps to consider (Level ranges are approximate, bolded maps are very popular training spots)
  • Golem Temple (Level 10-35)
  • Evil/Cursed Eyes (Level 10-35)
  • Gold Beach (Level 30-55)
  • Silent Swamp (Level 50-86)
  • Stairway to the Skies I (Level 60-90)
  • Sahel 2 (Level 70-109)
  • Roids area (Level 80-115)
  • Toy Factory <Apparatus Room> in Ludibrium (Level 100-133)
  • Dragon Forests in Leafre (Level 110-145)
  • Knight District 4 (Level 171-193)
  • Armory 2 (Level 170-193)
  • Twilight Perion (Level 190+)
  • Scrapyard (Level 190+)
  • You can also use a high level character to spawn at higher levelled monsters since there will be lesser people there after excluding the low levels
    • Note: Only efficient if you are funded since high level monsters have thick HP, which is a trouble for low funded high level characters, which in that case they are better off making a low level character and using it to hunt since lower level characters have little trouble killing monsters around their level or even higher level monsters.
Plausible hunting jobs to consider (they are strong for low levels to hunt Elite Bosses easily)
  • Demon Avengers
  • Demon Slayers
  • Xenon
  • However please do not overly hunt these bosses since you are limited to 20 boxes per day so excess boxes will be wasted as they expire (which means a waste of effort).
