Template:All Game Nav In the Maple World, there are many different towns and locations for players to visit. Each has its own unique design or theme.

The MapleStory world is a set of explorable continents in the MMORPG MapleStory. There are three main continents common to all versions in the MapleStory world: Maple Island, Victoria Island, and Ossyria Island. Victoria Island has seven towns and hunting areas - Ellinia, Henesys, Kerning City, Lith Harbor, Perion, and Sleepywood, plus a subcontinent called Florina Beach. Ossyria Island also has nine towns and hunting areas - Orbis, El Nath, Aqua Road, Ludibrium, Omega Sector, Korean Folk Town, Riprey, Wuling, and Hundred Grass Village.

Additional continents that are found in some versions of the game include Coca-Cola World, Zipangu, Dong Fang Shen Zhou, Formosa, and Thai Floating Market. The latter four are all based off a certain culture, and were formerly exclusive to their respective culture's version of the game.

In addition, there are two marriage towns - Peach Blossom Island and Amoria. At Peach Blossom Island (available in ChinaMS, TaiwanMS, and MapleSEA), players take part in traditional Chinese marriages. Amoria, exclusive to GlobalMS, hosts marriages based on western culture.

There are also event towns, such as Happyville and Shalom Temple, are only available during the Christmas and Hanukkah seasons, respectively.

Finally, Premium Road, accessible only from Internet cafes that have made contracts with the game, has been made available to KoreaMS, JapanMS, ThailandMS, and MapleSEA.

Main Continents

Maple Island

  • Mushroom Town, Amherst and Southperry
File:Maple Island.jpg
Map of Maple Island

This is the "beginner" island where new players are able to learn how to play the game. Here, they may train on low-level monsters. This island contains 3 towns: Mushroom Town (replaced by the Adventurer Training Course in JapanMS), Amherst, and Southperry. To leave Maple Island, players must take a boat from Southperry to Lith Harbor on Victoria Island. The trip costs a small amount of Mesos, and it is regularly impossible to return to Maple Island after the journey. However, in ChinaMS, one can return to Maple Island for a fee.

  • Adventurer Training Course [JapanMS Exclusive]
File:Advcourse1827.jpg
Adventurer Training Course

Exclusive to JapanMS, a new tutorial area known as the Adventurer Training Course has replaced Mushroom Town on Maple Island. After creating a new character, one is brought to an area that resembles the backstage of a movie set. Players are given a costume that resembles a green apple. In this area are props and backdrops depicting each town on Victoria Island, with a screen displaying each class in combat. In the next area are various beginner quests and backdrops of Ossyria towns. Upon leaving the area, players are transported to Maple Island and lose the costume.

Victoria Island

  • Ellinia, Henesys, Kerning City, Lith Harbor, Perion, and Sleepywood (Dungeon)
File:Victoria Isnad.jpg
Map of Victoria Island

There are many towns and training grounds to explore on Victoria Island. The towns, named Ellinia, Henesys, Kerning City, Lith Harbor, Perion, and Sleepywood, have shops that sell various potions and equipment.

Most of the job advancements require speaking to one of the four job instructors in each of the towns Ellinia, Henesys, Kerning City, and Perion at some time during the advancement process. The overworld of Victoria Island generally contains relatively weak enemies that are easy to kill at lower levels, although there are hidden areas that contain much more powerful enemies for higher-level players to train on.

Kerning City has a Accompaniment that low-level players may participate in. The quest requires four players to progress through five stages in a certain amount of time by solving puzzles and killing monsters. After finishing the quest, each participant is awarded a prize. Only one party may be in the quest on each channel. Henesys also hosts an Accompaniment for players above level 10. It is currently available only in KoreaMS.

At the center of Victoria Island is a Dungeon, which can be accessed by paths leading from various cities surrounding it, or via a VIP Cab. The outer areas of the Dungeon consist of damp, dark landscape, as well as a town called Sleepywood. In the town there is a sauna, and a path deeper into the dungeon. At the end of the dungeon, one may find the Jr. Balrog, the most powerful monster on Victoria Island.

  • Florina Beach [Part of Victoria Island]

Florina Beach, a tropical island covered with beaches, is located near Victoria Island. Players can travel to Florina Beach from Lith Harbor, Ludibrium, or Orbis for a small fee. The maps in this area are filled with monsters associated with the beach such as turtles and crabs.

  • Sharenian (Guild Quest), Perion Excavation Site, and Perion Ruins [Part of Victoria Island]

Perion has a Accompaniment (Sharenian Guild Quest) for guild members in the level range of 10 and up, but require level 70+ players for the boss monster, Necromancer, a level 115 boss. There is a time limit of 60 minutes in this quest. There is also a new path on the Victoria Island Map, which leads into another section of Perion's mountain range. Here you can find a excavation site, that offers some new quests to do. Past the excavation site, you can find the Perion Ruins, with a variety of middle to high level skeleton type monsters along with ruined castle environments to explore. Sharenian Guild Quest, Perion Excavation Site and Perion Ruins are currently available to KoreaMS, JapanMS and TaiwanMS only.

Ossyria Island

Currently in Ossyria, there are nine towns: Orbis, El Nath, Aquarium (Aqua Road), Ludibrium, Omega Sector, Korean Folk Town, Riprey, Wuling, and Hundred Grass Village. Ossyria has yet to have a world map, potentially because players do not only move around on a flat continent, but move up and down buildings, making it much more difficult to represent Ossyria on a two-dimensional map.

To reach Ossyria, players must take a flying ship from the magician town of Ellinia. Depending on the current level of the player and the version of the game, the trip can cost anywhere from 3,000 to 80,000 Mesos. The ship departs every 15 minutes in most versions. However, would-be travelers must get into the waiting room of the ship one minute before departure time, shown on the dock. While in transit between Victoria Island and Ossyria, the Crimson Balrog boss may attack the ship. Lower level characters or those who do not wish to fight the Crimson Balrog should enter the cabin or risk being killed.

  • Orbis
File:Orbis91827.jpg
Orbis

The boat docks at Orbis, a floating city in the sky where Fairies live. Outside the town, player will be attacked by enemies such as pixies, cats, and plants. Also players can create or join a guild in the guild hall building, a luxurious-looking building located in Orbis.

The Orbis tower is a gateway for traveling between areas like El Nath and Aqua Road. It has a total of 20 floors and 2 basements which contain monsters such as Sentinels, Leatties, Jr. Pepe and Scuba Pepe. A quest exists in the tower called "Collecting Huckle's Magic Ingredients" and can be done once per day. If a player completes this quest, he or she is rewarded with 5 Orbis Rock Scrolls and some exp. The Orbis Rock Scrolls can be used to teleport between 20th floor and 1st floor of the Orbis Tower, consuming one Orbis Rock Scroll with each trip.

Orbis also has its own Accompaniment (Orbis Party Quest) at the top of the Orbis tower for players in the level range of 51 to 70. The quest requires 6 players to progress through 8 stages with a 60 minute time limit by killing monsters and gathering pieces of stones, and gathering pieces of clouds from each big cloud. After the 1st stage, the party leader can decide to go to any stage between the 2nd stage and the 7th stage. All of the stages need to be completed and they can be completed in any order. In the last stage, there is a boss called Papa Pixie, a level 74 boss, and it summons Star Pixie, Luna Pixie and Luster Pixie. All of the Pixies revive after its death and becomes Ghost Pixie which doesn't revive again after its 2nd death. At the end, a prize is given to each participant. Only one party can be inside the party quest at any time on one channel. Orbis Party Quest is currently only available in KoreaMS, JapanMS, ChinaMS and TaiwanMS.

  • El Nath
File:Elnath12.jpg
El Nath

El Nath, a snowy town, can be reached by descending the Orbis tower. The ground in El Nath is covered in snow and ice causing players to slide around. This can be remedied by equipping Snowshoes. The areas near El Nath, excluding towns and the insides of buildings, cause an HP decrease due to the cold. The only way to prevent this is by eating Red Bean Soups which can be purchased from NPCs in El Nath. Since El Nath and the surrounding areas are based on winter, many of the monsters are all ice-based, making this a favored training spot for Fire/Poison Wizards.

The third job advancement must be made through one of the four chiefs of El Nath: "Tylus" for Warriors, "Robeira" for Magicians, "Rene" for Bowmen, and "Arec" for Thieves. Monsters resembling penguins, wolves, and yetis inhabit the area surrounding El Nath.

Past El Nath, a dungeon can be found. It is available only to characters above level 50, and is full of powerful monsters. In this Dungeon, players can find more powerful yetis as well as monsters resembling werewolves and zombies, and very large guard dogs. Past all these monsters is a shrine in which the most powerful compound monster, Zakum, can be summoned.

  • Aquarium / Aqua Road
File:Maple0216.jpg
Aqua Road area

Aqua Road can be accessed through a door located at the bottom of the Orbis Tower. It is an underwater world and, similar to El Nath, a player's HP will decrease periodically. This can be counteracted by using the item "oxygen bubble" or by equipping a cape called the "Oxygen Tank". Oxygen Bubbles are similar to the Red Bean Soup preventing damage for a certain period of time. The Oxygen Tank permanently stops HP loss from being underwater as long as it is equipped. In Aqua Road, players maneuver as if they are swimming. Falling is much slower, and the jump functions as swimming up rather than jumping. Deeper into the ocean, the town called Aquarium is located. Inside the village is a shop selling weapons/armors half the NPC price of what El Nath and Orbis sells. However, in MapleSEA and GlobalMS, prices of armors and weapons remain the same as that of El Nath.

Near the town, there is a portal that leads to the dungeon of Aqua Road and is filled with scores of level 90+ monsters, a sharp contrast to the easy monsters at the surface. In the deepest end of the dungeon, players can find a fish boss named Pianus.

Aqua Road is currently available in all versions except EuropeMS.

  • Ludibrium
File:Ludibrium271.jpg
Ludibrium

Ludibrium is a toy-themed town. To get there, players must ride a flying train from Orbis Station. The price of the toll ranges from 2,000 to 10,000 Mesos per ticket. The ship departs every 10 or 15 minutes, but would-be travelers must arrive in the waiting room of the train 1 minute before departure time, shown at the dock. Unlike the flying ship from Orbis to Ellinia, no monsters will appear during the ride to attack players.

When departing the train, the character will be located in Ludibrium. Ludibrium also includes maps and training grounds such as the Toy Factory, the Clocktower, the Cloud Terrace, the Sky Terrace and the Terrace Hall. Enemies located on the upper levels of the toy factory are relatively weak. However, descending through the toy factory leads to some very powerful monsters. At the very bottom of the Clocktower, lives a powerful clock boss named Papulatus.

In JapanMS, Ludibrium also has a Accompaniment (Ludibrium Maze Party Quest) in the top-center of town for players in the level range of 51 to 70. The quest requires 3 to 6 players. This party quest is much different from a typical party quest. A party must collect a minimum of 50 coupons and find their way through a maze in order to complete the party quest. Players must fight a variety of monsters by freeing them from boxes, in order to receive coupons. All monsters drop 1 coupon each, except for Tauromacis. There are six Tauromacis hidden in the maze, and when killed, there is a small percentage chance they can drop 50 coupons each. There is a time limit for this party quest of 15 minutes. At the exit, as long as the party has at least 50 coupons, the party will receive 25 experience points per coupon. You are allowed to collect as many coupons as you want in the 15 minute time limit, as long as you make it to the exit before the time limit is up.

The Eos tower is also a part of Ludibrium. On the 101st floor of Eos tower, there is another Accompaniment (Ludibrium Party Quest) for players in the level range of 35 to 50. It requires 6 players to progress through 9 stages with a 60 minute time limit by killing monsters, opening boxes, and gathering tickets to solve puzzles. In the last stage, there is a boss called Alishar, a level 56 boss, and it summons Chronos, Platoon Chronos, and Master Chronos. At the bonus stage, players are able to open boxes scattered around in a large vertical map. Many items pop out of these boxes, including many mesos, potions, and sometimes equipment such as earrings and capes. The bonus stage has a time limit of 1 minute. At the end, a prize is given to each participant. Only one party can be inside the party quest at any time on one channel.

Similar to the Orbis tower, Eos tower leads down to another town, Omega Sector. The Eos tower has 100 floors as opposed to 20 in the Orbis Tower, however there are large drops that skip approximately 10 floors at a time. In Eos tower, all 100 of these floors are fully accessible. There are many quests in the tower, such as "The Lost Guard". This quest in particular rewards the player with 20 Eos Tower Scrolls, which allow the character to warp past sections of the tower, consuming one scroll for each section traversed. It takes a total of 3 scrolls to travel from one end of the tower to the other.

  • Omega Sector
File:OmegaSector837.jpg
Omega Sector area

At the bottom of the Eos tower, lies the entrance to Omega Sector, a town based on a military base fighting off an invasion of aliens. There are a large number of quests to be completed here for players. These quests are mainly given by the Mesorangers, the MapleStory version of the Power Rangers. All enemies found in Omega Sector are aliens, which are split into two "species". In the Boswell (note similarity to Roswell UFO incident) Fields are the Mateons; short purple aliens with three eyes and many tentacles that look suspiciously similar to the Octopus enemies on Victoria Island. The boss of the Mateons is the Mechanical MT-09, a large robot that can shoot a purple missile-like projectile. In the Kulan Fields are the Grays, humanoid aliens with large heads, jumpsuits and single antennae that look like baubles (note similarity to Asgard (Stargate)). The boss of the grays is Chief Gray, which can attack multiple players at once.

Omega Sector is currently available in all versions except EuropeMS.

  • Helios Tower [Part of Ludibrium]

The Helios tower is located on the opposite side of Ludibrium, mirroring the Eos tower. Like the Eos tower, the Helios tower has 100 floors but only 3 floors (and a first floor library) are available because of an elevator. This elevator between the 99th and 2nd floors departs every 5 minutes and takes 1 minute to travel. At the end of the Helios Tower, lies a library with a giant magical "storybook", which acts as a portal into the land known as Korean Folk Town which is not yet out in GMS.

The Helios tower is currently not available in ThailandMS, MapleSEA, and EuropeMS.

  • Korean Folk Town
File:Maple918273.jpg
Korean Folk Town

Korean Folk Town is a town based on Korean culture. There are two ways to Korean Folk Town: using the giant magical "storybook" portal at the end of Aqua Road in order to teleport there, or by going down Helios Tower in Ludibrium to use the giant magical "storybook" portal in the tower's library. As in other towns, Korean Folk Town contains some people who give quests and also sell various items, potions, and equipment. Korean Folk Town also serves as a gateway between Ludibrium and Aqua Road without having to ride the transportation at Orbis. Outside of town you will find the entrance to Black Mountain. There you can find monsters such as rabbits, tigers, foxes, and more unusual creatures, all taken from Korean mythology. The black mountain area is one of the few places in MapleStory that has a night sky scene. At the end of the black mountain, there are monsters called King Goblins, which come in three colors: red, green, and yellow.

Korean Folk Town is currently not available in ThailandMS, MapleSEA, GlobalMS, and EuropeMS.

  • Riprey (also known as Leafre)
File:235368756875.jpg
Riprey area

Riprey is an egg-themed area that is also part of Ossyria. The fourth job advancement is located in Riprey. To get there, players must ride a large blue bird from Orbis Station. Also, if a Magic Seed can be obtained, it may be used to create a two-way portal from Riprey to Ellinia. Riprey is the only town that lets a player refine level 110 weapons for every class.

The forest areas outside of Riprey are more dangerous than even El Nath since all of the monsters are level 70 and above. Deeper in the forest, you can find the territory of the burning centaur, which has many powerful red, blue, and dark colored centaur monsters. The Riprey Dungeon is located on an opposite path of the centaur forest: The red forest area has many high-leveled monsters such as Ristons, Dragon Turtles, and Lizardmen. Past the red forest, you can find an icy mountain area with some of the most powerful monsters in the game, such as red, blue, and dark Wyvern, Nutoznio, Nest Golem, Skeletragon, and Master Skeletragon. Deep in the icy mountains, there is a party quest-like section of Riprey that includes a new composite boss monster called Horntail whose power is even greater then that of Zakum's.

There are two other quest bosses in Riprey as well: a Giant Red Dragon and a Gryphon.

Leafre may be the name used in the English versions.

Riprey is currently not available in ThailandMS, MapleSEA, GlobalMS, and EuropeMS.

  • Wuling

A town in the high mountains with an ancient red and blue Asian style along with many animals monsters with a level range between 40 and 70.

  • Hundred Grass Village

A village that has a Panax flower theme even the monsters. Outside of Hundred Grass Village is fill with monsters from level 50 to 70 along with a boss at the tail end of the Hundred Grass Village area.

Additional Continents

Originally, these continents were not appart of the main game. Each new continent was an expansion to each original versions. JapanMS was the first to expand their version with a continent called Zipangu. These additional continents reflect more on real world locations or real world things, with a few exceptions. At first, these new continents were to be exclusive maps for each version they originated from. Coca-Cola World for KoreaMS, Zipangu for JapanMS, Dong Fang Shen Zhou for ChinaMS, Formosa for TaiwanMS, and Thai Floating Market for ThailandMS. As of September 2006, the exclusive maps started to become accessible in other versions of MapleStory.

Coca-Cola World

  • Coca-Cola Town [KoreaMS Exclusive]
File:1165157955 01.jpg
Coca-Cola Town Area

The only way to Coca-Cola World is by talking to "Coke Bear Administrator" in most towns. Coca-Cola Town is a winter town with a Coca-Cola theme, even with Coca-Cola themed monsters. They spew out coke dealing intense damage. Once defeated they will drop rare event items along with +1000 EXP. This continent used to be an event area only accessible to players that used the cash shop. Now Coca-Cola World is available to all KoreaMS players.

Zipangu (Japan)

  • Mushroom Shrine and Showa Town

Mushroom Shrine
File:ShowaTown029.jpg

The only three ways to Zipangu are to take a "pelican taxi" in Kerning City (JapanMS, ThailandMS, MapleSEA) and in Xi Men Ding (TaiwanMS)[1], the World Tour NPC in most towns (KoreaMS and JapanMS), and to use a "Return to Mushroom Shrine" or "Return to Showa Town" potion, sold in the Showa Town bath house. There are two towns located in Zipangu: Mushroom Shrine and Showa Town.

In Mushroom Shrine most of the stores sell food. Outside of town, you can find mushrooms, crows, racoon, and fox type monsters. There is a hidden-street map called the "Hall of Mushroom", with a boss named Blue Mushmom, a more powerful version than the Mushmom of Victoria Island. Past the Mushroom Shrine area, you can find a cemetery, which contains a lot of dark and undead type monsters. The cemetery is one of the few areas in MapleStory that has a night sky scene. There is also a hidden-street cemetery with a powerful boss named Chungoo. On a path opposite from the cemetery, you can find the streets of Showa, with many human type enemies. Past the streets, you will find the town of Showa. Showa Town has a lot of rare items on sale, but at very high prices. There is also a bath house, hair salon, and hospital. In the center of the city stands Showa Mansion, a huge mansion full of scores of strong monsters and bosses. In the mansion there are five bosses: Boss, Female Boss, Bodyguard A, Bodyguard B, and The Boss. The Boss is currently the highest level boss monster in the game, even higher level than Zakum and Horntail.

Zipangu is currently not available in ChinaMS, GlobalMS, and EuropeMS. KoreaMS only has access to Mushroom Shrine, and not Showa Town. ThailandMS and MapleSEA do not have access to the Chungoo boss area. KoreaMS has access to the Chungoo boss area, but the Chungoo boss hasn't been released in KoreaMS.

There are several continents which play host to the cities of MapleStory. These continents are:

Maple Island

Maple Island has three towns:

Mushroom Town
This is where a new player learns the basics of the game. This town has quests that require the player to perform simple tasks such as talking to an NPC and learning the basics of attacking and jumping.
Amherst
This is another small town with an armory and potion shop. One will meet more NPCs, as well as have access to new quests.
Southperry
This is a port town where there are more NPCs and quests. Also located here is the ship that takes Beginners to Victoria Island for a 150 Meso fee. Note that it is impossible to return to Maple Island once on Victoria Island except in CMS.

Victoria Island

Victoria Island has five towns and 3 subcontinent:

Lith Harbor
This is the town one arrives at from Southperry. It is another port town with better shops, many quests, and access to Florina Beach. This town also contains a VIP Taxi that transports a player to the Ant Tunnel Park, deep within Sleepywood.
Henesys
The Bowman town, located on the plains of Victoria Island. One will find Bowman-related items here and the Bowman job advancement instructor, Athena Pierce. Located in Pig Park is Mushmom, a boss monster. This town has access to the Free Market.
Ellinia
The Magician town, located in a tall forest. One will find Grendel the Really Old, the Magician job advancement instructor, and many Magician-related items. The MP potions sold here are slightly cheaper than at other locations on Victoria. Ellinia has a sky dock named Sixtopia, where the ship headed for Ossyria every 15 minutes is located. This town also contains a VIP Taxi that brings one to an area within Sleepywood's dungeon. There is no Free Market access from Ellinia.
Perion
The Warrior town, located among the crags. You can meet the Warrior job instructor, Dances with Balrog here. The shops specialize in warrior equipment. Drakes, Boars and Stumps of all types are abundant around Perion. Perion used to be the major hub for player-based trading, but with the advent of the Free Market, this is no longer the case. This town has Free Market access.
Perion Excavation Site and Perion Ruins
Located on a new path in the Perion mountains, an Excavation Site is located. Some NPCs here give out quests to do. Past the Site, the Perion Ruins are held, with many undead skeleton type monsters. There is also a quest for guilds only, called the Sharenian Guild Quest.
Kerning City
The Thief town; an urban city. One can find the Dark Lord, the Thief job advancement instructor, here. The shops specialize in thief-related items. The popular party quest on Victoria Island can be done here. Kerning City is also connected to the Swamps of Despair and Sleepywood via the sewers. There is no Free Market access.
Sleepywood
This town lies in the middle of Victoria Island. It is accessible through every town except Lith Harbor and Ellinia. It offers a Sauna where weary travellers can rest for a fee. Comparitively tough monsters reside in its dungeons, and one should be fairly high-leveled to fully explore it. A Cursed Sanctuary is located in the deeper parts of the dungeon. Monsters such as Tauromacis and Cold Eyes inhabit the outer regions of the Sanctuary, while a huge winged creature known as the Jr. Balrog roams the inner Sanctuary. One can also buy many various items in Sleepywood. There is no Free Market access.

Note Florina Island, Peach Blossom Island and Happyville are part of Victoria as subcontinents.

Florina Beach

This area is exclusive to GlobalMS. Amoria is a marriage town based on western culture. To access Amoria, players can talk to Thomas Swift of Henesys to be transported there.

Ossyria

It is not recommended that you go to Ossyria until you are at least level 30. Monsters there are quite tough for a lower-leveled character. Many low-level characters pay the expensive fare only to be stuck at Ossyria with no way back (since the monsters are difficult to defeat in perspective).

Ossyria is accessible through the sky dock in Ellinia. The ship at both Ellinia and Ossyria's sky dock leaves every 15 minutes. Boarding starts five minutes and ends one minute before departure, so don't be late! Also Note the Price is 5000 Mesos for those above level 30, but the fares vary from version to version.. WARNING: Stay in the cabin if you are around LV30-60, a Crimson Balrog Ship may appear.

The ride from Orbis to Ellinia

Ossyria currently has 9 towns.

Guilds can also be formed at the Guild Headquarters located in this town. The middle right portal leads to the clouds, where pixies and a race of magical cats reside. The bottom right corner of the town gives access to Orbis Tower, a 20 story tower which must be descended in order to reach El Nath.
The hole in Orbis Tower
El Nath
A snow covered town located in a deep valley. The cold is so intense in its outskirts that you will lose HP at a constant rate of 10 per 5 seconds. This inconvenience can be avoided temporarily by consuming a Red Bean soup, sold in the El Nath potion shop. You can find high leveled equipment here as well, but the prices are much higher compared to that of other towns. Players can wander the snow fields and scale the valley, meeting intimidating creatures such as werewolves and yetis. A dark forest sits at the top where undead zombies roam about. The entrance to the mines can be found here. By going deeper through the mines, one can find themselves in the presence of Bains and Cerebes; inhabitants of the fiery caverns deep under the land. Zakum, one of the strongest bosses in Maplestory, awaits travellers at the end. El Nath has Free Market Access.
Aquarium (Aqua Road)
A city located in the depths of the ocean. Accessible through Orbis Tower's Basement. HP will be lost at a constant rate under the ocean unless an oxygen tank is equipped outside. Strangely, no HP will be lost if you're in the town. There are caves leading to Aquarium's murky depths where bone fish and sharks reside. It is also the home of the Doomflounder/Pianus. Weaker creatures reside in the sunny and colorful upper layer of the ocean. Aquarium has free market access.
