Players who chose Turtwig or Piplup will gain an easy victory, but players who chose Chimchar may want to catch a Machop on Route 207 and level it up a bit or evolve your Bidoof into Bibarel at level 15 where it will learn Water Gun before you challenge Roark. If you don't want to do either, evolve Chimchar into a Monferno, which is also a fighting type. There are two other Trainers in the Gym.
