Enter Route 202 and into the first grass you see. Professor Rowan’s assistant (Lucas if you’re playing a girl, Dawn if you’re playing a boy), will call you over and show you how to catch Pokémon. Enter Route 202 and once you go into the first grass you see you will find Lucas/Dawn. He/she will call you over and tell you to say goodbye to your mom. While saying bye to your mom Barrys mom gives you a parcel to give to Barry. Once done return to Lucas/Dawn and he/she will show you how to catch Pokémon. It’s helpful to lower the foe’s HP into the yellow or red before throwing the ball. You will then receive you 5 Pokéballs from them and you can start catching new Pokémon now!

Route 202 is where you will learn to catch Pokémon. Also here you can catch a new Pokémon in Shinx who's an Electric type and a great addition to your team. You will run into your first trainers as well who will give experience and money.
