Oreburgh City

Oreburgh City is a coal-mining city, home to the first Sinnoh region Gym Leader - Roark. It also houses the Oreburg Mining Museum which revives the fossils of ancient Pokémon, and the Oreburgh Mine

Missing Gym Leader

A kind resident of Oreburgh City will take you to the Gym as soon as you set foot in town. Your rival will be waiting at the Gym, and he will inform you that Roark has gone into the Oreburgh Mine. You will need to find him before you challenge the Gym.

Exploring the city

Oreburgh has a lot of information to learn/items to get and you should do this before heading into the mine.

Choose Your Trainer Identity

A person on the ground floor of the Pokémon Center will ask you what kind of trainer you would like to be, giving you four options from a list of ten. If you choose one of these options, other players will see you as this character when you visit a Union Room.

Learn About Wi-Fi

The basement floor of every Pokémon Center is devoted to the Wi-Fi Club, but this is the first one open for business. On your first visit, a clerk will give you the Pal Pad and teach you how to register friends. This device will let you link up with a certain player when you are both connected to Nintendo Wi-Fi at the same time.

In game trade

A woman on the ground floor of the building to the left of the Poké Mart wants to trade Pokémon. She wants a Machop in exchange for an Abra. If you are interested and didnt get an Abra on Route 203, Machop can be found just to the north of Oreburgh on Route 207.

Get a free Heal Ball

A man on the second floor of the same building is interested in Zubat (or Geodude in Platinum). He doesn't want to trade for one, he just wants to see one. If you bring him the Pokémon, he will thank you by rewarding you with a free Heal Ball.

Get a free Dusk Ball

Visit the building in the top left corner of the city. There, a woman on the second floor will give you a Dusk Ball free of charge.

Get a free Great Ball

Visit the house that is furthest right in the city, directly below the Museum. There, a boy on the second floor will give you a Great Ball.

Revive fossil Pokémon

If, in your wanderings throughout Sinnoh, you happen to find a Pokémon fossil, leave the fossil at the Mining Museum in the top right corner of town to have the scientists there revive it.

Heading into the mine

Walk down from the Pokémon Center to get to the area with all the machines and conveyor belts. Head to the bottom right corner and talk to the worker to receive a Super Potion(DP). After that head to the top right corner and on the far left left of the big rock is a hidden Stardust(DP).

Coal Badge

After convincing Roark to return to the Gym, the building will open for battle. Players who chose Turtwig or Piplup will gain an easy victory, but players who chose Chimchar may want to catch a Machop on Route 207 and level it up a bit or evolve your Bidoof into Bibarel at level 15 where it will learn Water Gun before you challenge Roark. If you don't want to do either, evolve Chimchar into a Monferno, which is also a fighting type. There are two other Trainers in the Gym. They can be avoided if you want, but it's not recommended because accepting a battle is always good and after you defeat the Gym Leader, you can't battle them anymore so you will miss the opportunity to gain money and train your Pokémon.
