Not choosing Turtwig isn't all that big a deal, because it can easily be replaced by something like the {{bp|Budew}} family (Budew, {{bp|Roselia}}, and {{bp|Roserade}}).

It's evolutions also gains an extra type (Fighting), this time appearing when your Chimchar evolves into {{bp|Monferno}}, the second stage. This family is quick and powerful in attacks, allowing for attacks like Flame Wheel and Close Combat to be utilized easily. One should note that there are only 5 total Pokémon that have a fire type pre-National Dex, and since {{bp|Ponyta}} and {{bp|Rapidash}} are not considered the best, this is a overall good choice.

This family is overall a good choice, and learns good moves. Empoloen can learn things like Brine and Hydro Pump, making it a good choice as it can also learn one of the most powerful water moves, Surf which has the dual purpose of allowing movement on water. Piplup's family also isn't all that big a deal type-wise because there will be many different water Pokémon families, like the {{bp|Shellos}} family (Shellos, {{bp|Gastrodon}}) and the {{bp|Buizel}} family (Buizel, {{bp|Floatzel}}.

Verity Lakefront[edit]

Verity Lakefront is a very uneventful place throughout the game, with no grass to walk in to find Pokémon, the only use is to serve as a small path to Lake Verity. To get there, just follow the path to a small opening and a sign that says Lake Verity Ahead, The Lake of Emotions. Go in to continue.

Spoiler

This refers to one of the three Pokémon that were used to stop a disaster, which you will find out about later. Its name is Mesprit, and catching it is optional to get the National PokéDex. You need the minimum of seeing it in battle once to add it to your PokéDex
