RuneScape is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Jagex. The game originally began as an experiment in 1998, where over the next three years it was developed until the original public beta was released in 2001. When the game got its remake in 2004; the original was renamed RuneScape Classic.

RuneScape involves building a character, levelling up skills, and selling items in the RuneScape world.

Story

RuneScape takes place in the fantasy-themed realm of Gielinor; no overall plot exists, although quests and NPC interaction reveal conflicts within the world.

Clans

Player organisations known as clans are fairly common in RuneScape. The clans generally consist of a small group of players working towards a common goal - for example, earning money by selling valuable items made by the clan.

There are also combat clans who generally work by entering the wilderness and leveling up their Combat skills by PKing (player-killing) other players.

Until recently, over 70 clans were involved in a large grouping of clans named the Chaos Alliance. This alliance contained over 9000 people, until it fell due to a rebellion while the leader - a P2P member under the username Red Echidna0 - was on holiday. The Chaos Shamans (the Alliance's leading clan) recently decided to reform the Alliance in conjunction with a small combat clan.
