The game would go on to reach sales of ruffly 29,680 units throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. It would be reported that the game, along with Big Bang Mini, would help distributor SouthPeak Interactive earn $13.5 Million in revenues. However the game was panned by critics for it controls, weak storyline, and its protagonist.

== Plot ==
Players control Ayumi, a spell-casting treasure hunter wielding a pair of gunblades, through a linear adventure that explores indoor and outdoor environments. Monsters are present in both preset numbers and in areas with "Monster Generators" that spawn both standard enemies and bosses until the generator is destroyed. Hidden power-ups, called artifact pieces, can be found throughout the game to grant ability upgrades. As players defeat enemies or destroy objects, they earn souls which can be use to purchase skills. These skills include combat techniques, spells, weapon enhancements, and teleportation.
In the beginning of time there existed two immortal brothers who ruled together side-by-side in an era of peace. Until one day one of the brothers, The Dark, Tried to claim all of the power for himself, but his brother, The Light, tried to stop him. As a result, The Dark would cast the Earth into total darkness, while The Light would try to restore the balance. Unfortunately The Light realized that he could only stop The Dark was to banish his power. Unfortunately this also meant that The Light would also lose his power as the two were connected. Their powers were stripped and locked away into two artifacts, and the brothers were both exiled into separate temples guarding the other's artifact and warding off any who came in search of either artifact. The location of the location of the artifacts was placed on a map that was divided into two relics that was long since believed to be lost forever. Until one day, on one of her quests, an intrepid treasure hunter named Ayumi finds a crystal skull and one of the relics. When she goes to have the skull appraised at a local shop, she happen upon the other relic and reactivates the map. Excited by what she finds, she embarks on a year long journey to find the artifact in the Sun Temple, The Light's home. Once there, she runs into The Light who begs her to turn away. Yet she ignores his warning and touches the artifact, becoming infused with the dark power and becomes cursed. The Light attempts to kill her but the dark power flairs up within her And The Light use what little power he has to send her to the [[X-Blades/The Abandoned Coast|Abandoned Coast]] of the nearby island. Now cursed, Ayumi must find the other artifact to help free her.
