Akuma

MVC Akuma.png

Click here for more information about Akuma's other fighting game appearances.

Akuma was the first Capcom character to appear in any of Capcom's Marvel fighting games, even before it became a cross-over series. He was first added as a secret character to X-Men: Children of the Atom, as an in-joke referring to the fact that Akuma's first appearance was in Super Street Fighter II X in Japan, thus making him a sort of X-Man in his own right. Based largely on the SSF2X version of Akuma, he was fairly unaltered, gaining the ability to super jump, a damaging retaliation move, and access to both Ken and Ryu's super moves. Unfortunately, the motions required for them were so similar, it was difficult to consistently perform the specific move you wanted.

When Akuma reappears in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, he has receives some power augmentations as a result of being in the Marvel Universe. His Gou Hadouken is slightly larger than usual, although not nearly as large as Ryu's. His Tatsumaki Senpukyaku has an added lightning effect that electrocutes opponents. His Tenma Kuujin Kyaku hits multiple times on the way down. And the strongest Gou Shoryuken lights people on fire (in fact, in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Akuma is covered in purple flames for every strength and ignites opponents). His Messatsu Gou Hadou comes out as a giant beam, like Ryu's. Tenma Gou Zankuu launches close to 20 fireballs. The remaining Hyper Combos, Messatsu Gou Shouryuu and the infamous Shun Goku Satsu are similar to their Alpha versions (in fact, in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Akuma only needs on level of super meter to perform Shun Goku Satsu, and is the only Hyper Combo that Rogue can steal from an opponent!)

In Marvel vs. Capcom, Akuma's presence is replaced by "Complete Change" Ryu, who has the ability to invoke the fighting spirit of Ken and Akuma during a match. He returns in earnest in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 with two additional moves. He gains a new throw special move, the Jigoku Guruma which must be performed close to connect. And he gains the Messatsu Gou Rasen, which is a super hurricane kick move. It moves vertically, and it must also be performed rather close in order to suck the opponent in.

Chun-Li

MVC Chun-Li.png

Click here for more information about Chun-Li's other fighting game appearances.

Chun-Li is the only other character besides Ryu and Zangief to appear in all four Vs. games. Although she normally appears in her SF2 outfit, she can also be selected in her SFA jumpsuit in X-Men vs. Street Fighter. She even has a secret altered form in Marvel vs. Capcom called Shadow Lady. This character supposes what would happen if Chun-Li was captured and experimented upon the way Charlie was when he became Shadow in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. She appears darker and appears to have robotic parts that she attacks with, along with altered Hyper Combos.

Chun-Li receives similar augmentation to her moves as a result of traveling to the Marvel Universe. While her Kikouken isn't very much altered, her signature 100-Kicks move (Hyakuretsu Kyaku) is far more animated and can be executed within a dash allowing the move to be more offensive in nature than defensive. Her rising kick attack Tenshoukyaku sends opponents much higher into the air, and her Sen'en Shuu also rises higher and has more of an arc than in the Street Fighter Alpha series.

She still retains her agility and aerial superiority. She is one of the few characters who can jump, not once, but twice in mid-air. She can perform a dash in mid-air as well. She also retains the ability to jump off of walls, and use her Yousou Kyaku head stomp move multiple times. Among her Hyper Combos, her Kikoushou has been incredibly enhanced, producing a globe of energy slightly larger than herself, capable of sucking opponents in for massive amounts of damage. The remaining Hyper Combos are more flashy to watch, and produce more hits as well.

Felicia

MVC Felicia.png

Click here for more information about Felicia's other fighting game appearances.

When Felicia, a rare example of a Darkstalker catgirl, arrived in the Marvel Universe, many of the super heroes believed that she was an ordinary Marvel Universe mutant. Summoned to the universe, possibly by Morrigan, Felicia was happy to help with the battle against Abyss that threatened the collective Marvel and Capcom universes. She fought not only for herself, but also for the children that she cared for at her orphanage. She was not at all thrilled to see Baby Bonnie Hood, however, as she considered Bonnie to be a mean person. As a result, she puts aside her desires for fame, and was determined to be useful and prove to everyone that not all Darkstalkers make it a point to harm humanity.

Her appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is based largely on the Vampire Savior iteration of her character as opposed to her two previous versions. None of her moves have changed all that much from the Darkstalkers series, they're just flashier. All of her assist types use the Hyper Sand Splash in Variable Combination attacks. Her Rolling Buckler attack does minimal damage by itself and must be followed up with another attack in order to be more useful. Unlike most wall jumpers, Felicia has the ability to actually cling to the wall, like Strider. However, in order for her to do it, you need to jump back, return the joystick to neutral, and push back again before you touch the wall. You can Wall Slide at will, or after you've attempted to cling to the wall for too long.

Jill Valentine

MVC Jill Valentine.png

Jill Valentine is a character from the Resident Evil survival horror series. She is one of the protagonists in the original Resident Evil, where she is introduced as a member of the Special Tactics And Rescue Service, part of the unit's Alpha Team. She is in charge of rear security and specializes in bomb disposal (an ability she acquired as a Delta Force operative). She returned as the protagonist in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, where she was no longer a member of S.T.A.R.S., merely a citizen trying to survive the viral outbreak in Raccoon City.

Jill appears in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as a playable character. She comes equipped with all her trademark weaponry from Resident Evil. As special moves, Jill summons incoming monsters, such as zombies, zombie dogs, and crows, leaving her opponent to deal with them. She can also use a rocket launcher as a Hyper Combo. In another Hyper Combo, the Tyrant appears and slashes Jill's opponent relentlessly and as a hidden command, she can pull out her rocket launcher and blast the Tyrant, causing additional damage to her opponent. Although the command only uses one Kick button, it still costs a full level to use. If summoned as a support character, she'll appear to provide a green herb, a common healing item in Resident Evil for the player's active character. On occasion, she will provide a green and red herb which will heal even more damage than the green herb.

If you hold hard punch when you do the hard punch Kinsetsu Sentou A, Jill will begin to glow. The longer she glows, the more hits and damage this move will do when you release HP. The increase rate is about one hit added for each second charge. The charging will end if you do an light punch Kinsetsu Sentou A, any of her Hyper Combo, or any Variable moves. The Kinsetsu Sentou A can also go through projectiles, but not all of them.

Morrigan Aensland

MVC Morrigan.png

Click here for more information about Morrigan's other fighting game appearances.

Morrigan is very vain, and lives for little more than the excitement of battle, although her character progression shows that Morrigan slowly takes up more of her responsibility seriously. She is a beautiful succubus woman with long, light green hair, and bat-like wings on her back and the sides of her head. Morrigan can reshape these wings into spikes and blades when attacking her enemies, as well as using them to shield herself from enemy attacks. Her wings can also separate from her, and form into a cloud of bats. She uses a variety of magical attacks as well.

Although Demitri would seem to fill the spot, it is often suggested and implied that Morrigan is the main character of the Darkstalkers series, due to her importance in the overall story as well as her many appearances outside of her game series. She may even be considered the protagonist or something of an anti-hero, since despite her demonic appearance and nature, she is not evil.

Morrigan was the original Darkstalker to break out of her original fighting game series and be transplanted in to the Marvel vs. Capcom series. In Marvel vs. Capcom, not only was Morrigan present, but an alternate "Lilith-style" Morrigan was a secret character. In Marvel vs. Capcom 2, she is joined by fellow Darkstalkers Anakaris, B.B. Hood, and Felicia.

Ryu

MVC Ryu.png

Click here for more information about Ryu's other fighting game appearances.

Ryu arrived in the Marvel Universe side by side with his best friend and fighting rival Ken. All of the Street Fighters were curious as to what led them to this new universe, but Ryu's mind was on one thing: the chance to compete against greater fighters and improve his skill. Much to his surprise, when he used his Hadouken in the Marvel Universe, it resulting energy burst was huge in comparison to his Hadoukens in his home universe. Even more than that, when he gather enough ki to use his Shinkuu Hadouken move, it did not come out as one giant ball of force, but rather as a beam as his ki continued to pour out of him. He quickly assimilated these new found abilities into his personal fighting style. Very little else changed for Ryu, however. His strongest Shoryuken rose very high, and his Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku still knocked down opponents with one hit. He later learn to focus his ki into a single devastating Shoryuken attack known as the Shin Shoryuken Hyper Combo.

When the events of Marvel vs. Capcom occurred, something strange happened to Ryu for unknown reasons. The presence of Onslaught created an imbalance of the energy responsible for summoning the new Capcom fighters into the Marvel universe. As a result, several Street Fighters were forced to return. Among the returning fighters were Ken and Akuma. However, as they left, a portion of their fighting spirit remained in the Marvel universe and quickly gravitated to Ryu. Ryu suddenly discovered that he could tap into either one of the spirits at the cost of some super move energy and transform the subtle details of his fighting style into those adopted by Ken and Akuma. During this time, he came to be known as "Complete Change" Ryu. When Ken and Akuma returned to the Marvel Universe in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the portions of their spirits that resided in Ryu returned to their original owners.

Tron Bonne

MVC Tron Bonne.png

Tron Bonne (meant to be pronounced like the instrument, trombone) is a character from the Mega Man Legends series. She serves mainly as an antagonist but is also an anti-hero of sorts in the series. She has forty-one Servbots at her command. Similar to Roll Caskett, Tron is the mechanical genius of the Bonne family. She is in charge of building all of the Bonnes' mechanical devices, including the Gustaff, Gesellschaft, and even her adorable Servbots. She has always wanted to go on missions and adventures just like her older brother Teisel, but was never given the chance until Teisel and Bon were kidnapped by Loath and Glyde. After rescuing Teisel and Bon from Loath's clutches, Tron has always been Teisel’s "right hand girl" in all of the Bonnes' adventures. Tron is also the creator and mother of the Servbots, who she treats just like children (which is how they basically behave). Although Tron will not admit it, she also has a huge crush on her arch-rival, Mega Man Trigger.

She is mostly an antagonist but sometimes an erstwhile love interest of Mega Man Trigger. Since she has shown some proper morals throughout the series (such as helping Mega Man out in Main Gate in MML) this would make her an "anti heroine" of sorts. She's a genius at mechanics and builds all the machines that the Bonne family uses in their schemes. She's very feisty and hot-headed, as well as extremely crafty. Many people who have only played Mega Man Legends may get the impression that Tron is nothing more than a bossy slave master to her Servbots. However, it is quite clear in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne that she is very much a maternal figure to them. Although at times she rules the Servbots with an iron fist, she is also just as quick to warmly praise and reward them when they do a good job and is very comforting to them when necessary.

When the Shiki Dan is used, Tron aims a raygun at her opponent. The laser sight (red orbs), aren't the part that hits—this only occurs when you see the gun fire in Tron's hands (so in effect, the projectile is invisible). If this move does hit, two Kobuns will latch onto Tron's enemy, stunning them momentarily. Afterward, they'll run away with two red crystals above their head, that you will automatically collect even if you're in the air. However, the crystals don't give you back any lost life, unlike the crystals Kobun can get during his Engo Kougeki (Tsukami!) move.
