Strategies

Meta Knight has a weak attack but is very strong in the combo department. One thing that you should remember is that he is good in the air. Use the dash attack to knock them up the air then fly up after them (using Up on the joystick or X or Y) then while your under them use your up air attack (up A). Now if they don't avoid you then you can bring them up to the very top of the screen. Once you get you and them off of the edge of the top then you can send them flying out of the screen (killing them) by using Meta's Up B attack (shuttle loop). This send them flying off of the screen.

Meta Knight's Neutral B button special move is great for pumping up an opponents Damage, especially if your opponent is a large character such as Bowser or Dedede as they find it harder to escape the Tornado.

A great finishing move to use with Meta Knight is sidestep into Down Smash, both are extremely quick moves so therefore very hard to dodge. However as with the majority of Meta Knight's moves, knockback is rather low so the move is best used when your opponents damage is above 120%

When in the Air his best moves are his neutral A button and Side Smash, both of which give relatively high knockback. If your opponent is above you, consider using Metaknight's Up nunchuk+B button as it has considerable knockback.

When falling from above the best move to use is probably Meta Knight's Down B (Dimension Cape). It allows you to teleport in any direction you please which is great for confusing an opponent who is waiting to smash you back upwards.

If you are playing in a level with a platform (i.e. Final Destination, Smashville, etc.) or any ledge to grab that, if not grabbed, would lead to falling to one's doom, and the opponent is about to get back on stage, and you want to edgehog, grab a ledge and then press Down on the control stick and then quickly press Down B and tilt the control stick upwards. If your timing is correct, you will grab the ledge. Do this repeatedly until the opponent gets near the ledge. Not only will you keep on the ledge, but you will also make yourself invincible for short periods of time. Another thing you can do, although more difficult, is hang onto the ledge and press Down nunchuk+B button and tilt Neutral nunchuk nearest the edge. Watch out however, because if you don't aim it correctly then you will go up onto the stage instead of grab the ledge.

More advanced strategies

Meta Knight is best in a 1-on-1. If you find yourself in a huge mob of people, its best to get out of there. In a 1-on-1; Meta Knight rules the stage, his Dimensional Cape leaves his opponents guessing, and can be used to dis-orientate them.

Meta Knight is not about raw power OR speed, more agility and deceptiveness. The trick to mastering Meta Knight is learning how to master Shuttle Loop and Dimensional cape. Until then, work on fast damage with combos such as Mach Tornado and Drill Rush. Shuttle Loop is mostly about recovering, but for such a fast attack, it has very high damage. Especially as it's not mainly used to attack. But in times of need; It can be handy to edge guard as well as score quick KOs.

Another thing to remember is Meta Knight has no projectile attacks, so on Heavy-class/Slow characters such as Bowser, Ike, King Dedede, Marth, and a few others who are weak to projectiles due to they're lack of speed; combos are the way to go, also, with many Heavy-weight characters; many of they're attacks leave them vulnerable to smash attacks, so slowly build up damage on them and unleash your final blow when they've left themselves open.

As for faster characters; such as Pikachu, Sonic, and Kirby. Meta Knight is left very little options, so the best thing to do is focus on throws and combos such as throwing your opponent into the air and following up with a Aerial assault. These characters can almost always out run Meta Knight; which is frustrating as Meta Knight is usually the faster character is Brawls. And being a Light-weight class; his attacks are not that strong, so being faced with a character who has faster attacks makes you the heavy character in the brawl, which makes things difficult as Meta Knight does not have the offensive onslaughts of a Heavy character. But the best thing to do is play like a heavy character: play with patience and precision. Meaning you slowly build up damage as safely as you can, and destroy them as soon as you get the chance, but be precise; heavy characters can't afford to miss their opponent because it leaves them vulnerable. (obviously in Meta Knight's case he's still a Light character after all so you don't need to worry about that.

Last but not least; Keep your damage low. Once again I am referring to Meta Knight as one of the lighter characters in the game, so he flies very far if hit hard, so don't let that happen, if your damage is getting to high, (about 50-70% is getting dangerous) try not to let it get any higher, so stop using smash attacks and go back to combos and Mach Tornado. If you in the zone where you can easily be KOed in one hit, (90%+) be incredibly careful and try to stay out of the air, Mach Tornado has almost no gravity and all of his Special attacks leave him very vulnerable so try to stay on the ground.

Final Smash

Galaxia Darkness

BEHOLD!

Meta Knight using his final smash

Galaxia Darkness: Meta Knight swings his cape. If you don't hit, nothing happens, but if you hit the enemy... behold. All the stage turns into shadows and Meta Knight launches the enemies away with one slash. Do not go near him if he is about to unleash his final smash.
