Route #33 is extremely short, but there is one Trainer along the way who will want to battle. When you beat the Trainer, he will offer to give you his phone number. Take it to see what he has to tell you later on. Check the tree for a Poisoncure Berry — it will come in handy.

Route 33

Trade numbers with the Dark Cave swarm watcher[edit]

There's only one thing to do in this area: Beat Anthony and trade numbers so he can call you when the Dunsparce in the Dark Cave are swarming. If you need to heal first, the town's right ahead.

Catch a Spearow[edit]

If you have time to kill, this area's thin strip of grass is another opportunity to catch a Spearow if you didn't nab one at the start of the game. This was at the bottom part of Route 46. Found through the building on the north side of Route 29 which was the path right outside of New Bark Town.

Here on Route 33 the Spearow are available only during the daylight hours, not at Night when they go to sleep. Found in all three versions Gold/Silver/Crystal, in this strip of grass Spearow will be level 6.

Spearow's Flying type move Peck will come in handy against the next Gym.

You'll not have many other chances to catch a Spearow for a while unless you get Headbutt and start hitting the trees or make your way up to Route 42 much later on.

#21 Spearow
Pokemon 021Spearow.png
Normal and Flying type Spearow! This is the second opportunity to catch one. They have high Speed stat and a decent Attack stat. It learns Fury Attack at level 13 and then new Dark type move Pursuit at level 25 if you prevent evolution. Has a high level move it can learn called Drill Peck, a Physical move doing 80 Flying type damage with 100% accuracy.

It has only 1 evolution into Fearow at level 20, and compared to Pidgey they're a bit rarer, a bit stronger, and a lot cooler. Fearow has high Speed and good Attack stat and will likely be the best candidate for HM 02 Fly. They also start off with a bigger advantage than Pidgey versus bug types since they start with Peck, a Flying type move. It will be one of your strongest early Pokémon for a while especially against Bug types in the wild and in the upcoming Gym. It will also be good against Gastly
