<big>Both Brock and his Junior Trainer use Rock-type Pokémon, and your only chance at victory is to face Brock and his minion with Grass, Water, or Fighting-type Pokémon of your own.

If you're playing Blue or Red, and you picked Squirtle or Bulbasaur, you should have an easy time of it, since both of these Pokémon are power against Rock. But if you picked Charmander, you may have a problem... You'll have to level-up your other Pokémon (not Fire, Flying, ot Bug, all of which are very weak against Rock) and fight him with those. Alternately, build Charmander up so that it can win the fight through superior strength and HP. A level around 15 to 17 should be sufficient.

Since electric Pikachu is also useless against Rock-types, they made the enemies easier in Yellow.  But Yellow can also exploit Rock's other weakness: Fighting!  Level 9 Mankeys know the Fighting skill Low Kick and level 12 Nidorans (of either gender) can learn the powerful Double Kick (which they can't learn until level 13 in Red or Blue!)

Pewter City has the item you need to find whichever Legendary Bird you haven't caught yet—Ho-oh in Silver, or Lugia in Gold and Crystal. Brock, the Gym Leader who prefers Rock-type Pokémon, lives in Pewter City.

Parlyz Heal 200
Awakening 250
Burn Heal 250

Obtain Rainbow Wing or Silver Wing[edit]

Talk to the old man to the right of the Pokemart to finally pick up the item required to catch one of the legendary birds. If you receive the Rainbow Wing (Silver), head to the Tin Tower to catch Ho-oh. If you receive the Silver Wing (Gold and Crystal), go to the Whirl Islands to catch Lugia.

Berries[edit]

  • Ice Berry - east of the Pewter Museum
  • Mint Berry - east of the Pewter Museum

Pewter City Trader[edit]

Trade a Gloom for a Rapidash? There isn't much reason to, since you can catch a wild Rapidash on Route 28, and you need Gloom to get Vileplume and Bellossom. Or how about a Haunter for a Xatu in Pokémon Crystal? Once again, you can easily catch and evolve a wild Natu at the Ruins of Alph. But if you have an extra Haunter lying around, go for it.

Pewter City Gym[edit]

Brock and his single Trainer use mostly Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon. There are no surprises in the Gym. Brock has a stable of easily beaten Pokémon. One good Grass Pokémon can take out all five, but a mix of Water and Electric (for Omastar and Kabutops) will do the trick too.

Trainer[edit]

  • Camper Jerry: 740

Leader[edit]

The battle against Brock will be easy if you take along a good Water-type Pokémon or two, and a Grass-type Pokémon. Brock's Pokémon are very tough, but your Water-types should sail right through the battle.
