Their specialty is being a Dark type, a relatively rare variety of Pokémon, which gives them immunity against Ghost and Psychic Moves. It Learns Howl at Level 5, which ups your attack when you use it, allowing you to defeat opponents faster. Just remember Dark type moves do not get powered up by Howl. It evolves into the more Powerful {{bp|Mightyena}} at Level 18.

Route 101

Now that you have some Poké Balls, you can catch yourself a few new Pokémon. On this route you will find Zigzagoon, Poochyena, and Wurmple. For Ruby and Sapphire players, Poochyena will be a little more difficult to find than the other two Pokémon, and for Emerald players you may have more difficulty finding Zigzagoon. No matter what version of the game you are playing, you may want to at least carry a Zigzagoon in your party until you can get the 6 Pokémon that you really want to travel with. Zigzagoon with pick up items randomly and as long as you take away the item he's carrying often you may never need to go to a Poké Mart for anything other then balls. Once you have picked up the Pokémon that you want and have trained them up some, head north into Oldale Town.

#263 Zigzagoon
Pokemon 263Zigzagoon.png
This Pokémon is pretty common throughout the land of Hoenn, so finding one shouldn't be a problem (except Emerald trainers, who have hordes of Poochyena to deal with). Once you get Poké Balls you should try to snag this raccoon-like critter. Its main strength in the game is not within battle, but off battle. Its party to the ability Pickup, which gives you a small chance to get free items after a battle. Emerald Players get the added Bonus of a more developed Pickup system, allowing them to get better items the higher its level. Definitely worth adding to your team. Zigzagoon evolves into Linoone at level 20.
