Mandalorian Battle Circle

The battle circle is found in the northern half of the Mandalorian Ruins, a circle of bare ground where two Mandalorian recruits duel with swords while four others watch from its southern perimeter. Presiding over it is a Mandalorian sergeant in red armor who's second from the right as you approach from the south. Speak to him to activate this quest:

Mandalorian Sergeant: So the Jedi comes to grace us. The battle circle is reserved only for real warriors. Your Jedi ways won't help you here. 1. Who are you? Mandalorian Sergeant: For today I have the honor of commanding the battle circle. I decide who fights who and make sure all the rules are followed. 2. What is the battle circle? 3. Is this where Mandalorians train? 4. I am a real warrior. Mandalorian Sergeant: The battle circle is only a small part of our training regiment. A full Mandalorian warrior is a master of many fighting techniques, and here all of them are tested. If you were to compete, you would have to do so on our terms. For that is the way of the battle circle. Those with great honor decide the terms of engagement. Mandalorian Sergeant: Jedi rely too much on their vaunted powers. They lose touch of the power of their arms and feet. Without your Force would you be a match for even the lowliest of Mandalorian warriors? If you want to try and fight us on our terms, that can be arranged. 2. What are the rules of the battle circle? Mandalorian Sergeant: Two rules never change - once you enter the circle, you leave the circle only if your opponent is defeated. The second is never kill anyone in the circle. The other rules are decided for each individual fight. The challenger must abide by the terms set by the warrior they challenge. Since you are new, the terms aren't yours to make. Break any rule and the battle is over, and you are dishonored. 3. Do I get anything if I win? Mandalorian Sergeant: We are not merchants. We are Mandalorians. The only thing gained and lost here is honor. And perhaps some skill, if you have the capacity to learn. 1. I see, none of you are merchants. Except for Kex. Oh, and you do have a repairman. Do you have janitors, too? Mandalorian Sergeant: Be careful when you ridicule a Mandalorian. If Mandalore hadn't ordered us to... Is there anything else you want to talk about? 4. I'm not interested right now. 5. I'll be going now. Mandalorian Sergeant: Not up to the challenge? I'm not surprised. Come back later if you change your mind.

Battle Circle The Mandalorians practice their skill in the battle circle. It is a way for their warriors to gain honor at the same time as honing their skills. There is a sergeant in charge you can talk to if you want to try and participate.

You can ask him about the rules of the battle circle and what you get if you win, or you can just fight:

Mandalorian Sergeant: Here to watch a fight or to participate?

1. I want to fight in the battle circle.

You fight five Mandalorians in turn, according to their rules (with the exception of Kex), gaining experience and the right to fight the next with each victory:

You may have been told that the only thing gained and lost here is honor, and perhaps some skill, but aside from experience you also receive a melee weapon from the sergeant after defeating Bralor, but only if you are level 25 or less.

Once you enter the circle, you leave the circle only if your opponent is defeated. If you leave before that, the fight ends:

Mandalorian Sergeant: You have violated the rules of the battle circle! Have you no honor, Jedi?

The fight also ends if you violate any of the rules for that fight:

Mandalorian Sergeant: You used a Force Power when you were explicitly told not to!

Mandalorian Sergeant: You used an item when you were explicitly told not to!

Mandalorian Sergeant: You used a weapon when you were explicitly told not to!

Mandalorian Sergeant: You equipped a weapon other than a sword when you were explicitly told not to!

Mandalorian Sergeant: You must follow all the terms of combat. You must not leave the battle circle. You must not kill anyone. Even a cannok could learn these rules. If you fight again, follow these rules. One more breach and you will never enter the battle circle again.

Once engaged in combat, using any medpac, shield or stimulant, throwing any grenade or setting any mine always violates the rules... but surprisingly, this is not the case if you use any shield, stimulants or even Force power buffs, or set any mines, before the fight: they can remain active even after entering the battle circle. However, if you violate the rules a second time:

Mandalorian Sergeant: That's your second violation. You will not be allowed to participate again.

Battle Circle You were disqualified from competing in the Battle Circle.

I have nothing more to say to you. You aren't welcome in the battle circle anymore.

If you don't want to exploit the loophole of buffing or setting mines before each fight, you're often reliant on just your attributes, equipment and feats. If you're defeated you can always fight again, but don't bother to heal between fights as you're restored to maximum Vitality (but not Force) upon entering the battle circle once more.

Davrel

Davrel stands to the right of the Mandalorian sergeant as you approach the battle circle from the south. You can speak to him before fighting him, but this isn't necessary:

Davrel: So you are the visiting Jedi. You aren't much to look at. Are you here to observe, or do you seek to prove yourself in the battle circle? 1. Who are you? Davrel: I am Davrel, a Mandalorian warrior. I have yet to taste real battle so I test my worth in the battle circle, instead. 2. Why do you fight in the battle circle? Davrel: Our history is one of battles and wars, but there are times when even we must deal with peace. The battle circle allows us to hone our skills by fighting other Mandalorians. It pales to what we really thirst for - honor in battle. But it keeps us prepared. Talk to the sergeant if you want to fight! 3. Are there rules? Davrel: A few. No fights to the death. Other parts of our training weed out the weak among us. But that isn't the function of the battle circle. There are individual rules for each fight. The warrior with greater honor determines those. Which in your case means any Mandalorian makes the rules. 4. I'll be going.

If you haven't spoken to the sergeant, asking Davrel why he fights in the battle circle can activate this quest. Tell the sergeant you want to fight in the battle circle, and Davrel will be your first challenger:

Mandalorian Sergeant: You are new here, so you will fight Davrel. He is young and has not been able to prove himself in battle. Davrel - what are your terms?

Davrel: No weapons, no Jedi tricks, and no items. Just fist and foot. A true test of strength.

Mandalorian Sergeant: Put your weapon away, Jedi. Don't step out of the circle, and pull any death blow. No one dies in the battle circle. So put away your weapon and step into the battle circle. Now you will experience a true fight.

You always start on the south side of the battle circle, and your challenger always starts on the north side. Davrel makes two unarmed attacks per round. If you are somehow unable to beat him:

Battle Circle For your first challenger they selected a green Mandalorian recruit named Davrel. Denied the use of the Force and weapons you were unable to beat him in single combat.

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Davrel is over. Davrel is the clear and honorable victor. You see, Jedi? Our training is rigorous, and is quite different from yours. With us, anything could be a weapon. Even hand and foot could be lethal. I'm sure Davrel would gladly challenge you again. He is eager to gain honor, even from you.

Davrel: Without real battle a Mandalorian has no honor. But defeating a Jedi in the battle circle is close. If you wish to fight again, I am sure the sergeant could arrange it. You will not fare any better, though.

Otherwise:

Battle Circle You have defeated your first challenger in the battle circle, a young Mandalorian recruit. Even without weapons or the Force, he was unable to best you. You feel you have started to earn some Mandalorians' respect. There are still other Mandalorians you could challenge.

Received: 100 Defeated Davrel

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Davrel is over. The Jedi is the clear and honorable victor. Davrel is just a recruit. I am not surprised you won this fight. A challenger has expressed interest in fighting you. As little honor as you have gained, it is sufficient to accept his request. Let me know if you would fight again.

Davrel: I have lost. But this was no true contest. Jedi are skilled warriors, and I am young. I will train very hard to match you in combat next time. But there are others already here who are more than your equal. Bralor is one of the mightiest among us. He could teach you humility.

Kex

After defeating Davrel, when you tell the Mandalorian sergeant you want to fight in the battle circle, your second challenger is Kex, their quartermaster:

Mandalorian Sergeant: After defeating Davrel, you have gained some small honor. There is a challenger for you. He is Kex the quartermaster. Since he is the challenger, you get to choose the terms. 1. Why does he want to fight me? Mandalorian Sergeant: As quartermaster he has little opportunity for any glory and training. He isn't as skilled as Davrel. 5. What would be appropriate? Mandalorian Sergeant: The battle circle is for training. It is best to choose something that will test both of your limits. In this case swords would be a good choice. It is something neither one of you are completely familiar with. But the choice is ultimately yours to make.

Since Kex isn't as skilled as Davrel, this is the only time you get to choose the terms:

2. No further terms. I can use my lightsaber and the Force. He can use anything he wants, as well.	3. Hand to hand, like the fight with Davrel.	4. Let's fight with swords, as you suggested.
Mandalorian Sergeant: I will send a runner to Kex. Prepare yourself for your fight, Jedi.		Mandalorian Sergeant: An honorable choice. I will send a runner to Kex. Your fight will begin shortly.

Kex only attacks once per round, unarmed if you choose hand to hand, or using a Dueling Vibrosword if you choose no further terms or swords. If you choose swords then you also receive a Dueling Vibrosword, although you can switch to unarmed combat yourself without violating the rules: you lose it once the fight is over unless you switched to unarmed but, since it cannot be upgraded (only broken down or sold), there's little point in trying to keep it. You shouldn't need your lightsaber(s), other weapons or the Force, but using Force Push or Wave to throw him back out of the battle circle may be the quickest and easiest way to defeat him (although this only happens if his Reflex save is a failure). If you don't defeat him:

Battle Circle Your second challenger was the quartermaster, Kex. Although you could choose the terms of the combat, he proved more resilient than he looked. You didn't defeat him.

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between Kex and Jedi is over. Kex? Kex is the clear and honorable victor. I knew in my heart that Mandalorians were tougher than Jedi without their 'tricks.' But to lose to Kex...

Kex: So the mighty Jedi is defeated by the lowly quartermaster. If you ever want to enter the battle circle again, I'll be there!

Otherwise:

Battle Circle You defeated the second challenger in the battle circle – the quartermaster, Kex. You have the feeling that you haven't earned much respect by beating him, since he isn't known for his combat prowess. There are other Mandalorians you could challenge.

Received: 150 Defeated Kex

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between Kex and Jedi is over. The Jedi is the clear and honorable victor. If you want to fight again let me know.

Kex: You here to gloat over your victories in the battle circle? Save it for someone else.

Tagren

After defeating Kex your third challenger is Tagren, who stands to the left of the Mandalorian sergeant and Bralor as you approach the battle circle from the south. You can speak to him before fighting him:

Tagren: This is our battle circle. You should leave us. This place is for Mandalorians alone. Even if the sergeant let's you fight with us, you will never truly be one of us.

Tagren may be taciturn, but if you haven't spoken to the sergeant then this is still enough to activate this quest. When you tell the sergeant you want to fight in the battle circle:

Mandalorian Sergeant: You choose to fight again. Now face a real Mandalorian warrior. Tagren - what are your terms?

Tagren: Just fist and foot, like your fight with Davrel. Nothing else!

Mandalorian Sergeant: Tagren chooses to fight hand to hand. Remember no weapons allowed, and absolutely no use of your "Force."

Tagren makes two unarmed attacks per round with Unarmed Specialist I, and wears Mandalorian Battle Armor. If you're bested by him:

Battle Circle The third challenger was the first truly worthy fight for you. You feel that you've lost no honor being bested by Tagren. He is a tough opponent.

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Tagren is over. Tagren is the clear and honorable victor. Against any full Mandalorian it appears you cannot win. Come back if you want a rematch. I am sure that Tagren could use the exercise.

Tagren: The sergeant made a mistake letting you fight on our battleground. I trust you understand that now. I will fight you again, if I must. But I think you should just leave Dxun. This place isn't for you.

Otherwise:

Battle Circle With your victory over Tagren, you feel the Mandalorians are affording you more respect. Some may be re-evaluating their opinions of Jedi fighting techniques.
Received: 200 Defeated Tagren
Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Tagren is over. The Jedi is the clear and honorable victor. You have fought well today.
Mandalorian Sergeant: The only Mandalorians left for you to fight are our champions. No one can fight a champion until they have proven themself worthy. And it must be real proof. The kind you gain fighting foes to the death. And a champion must observe and deem your actions worthy. There are two champions in the camp, Bralor and Kelborn. Until you prove yourself in their eyes, the battle circle is closed to you.	Kelborn: The Jedi has proven to be worthy of the battle circle, sergeant. Through deeds in battle and blood on field. He may challenge the champion of today, and days past.
	Mandalorian Sergeant: This is a great honor, Jedi. Kelborn is one of our former champions. He has declared you worthy enough to fight the best among us. If you choose to fight again, you will face him. If you somehow beat Kelborn, then you will take on Bralor.

Tagren: You have prowess in battle, this cannot be denied. But your Jedi teachings prevent you from having a true warrior's spirit. Jedi couldn't have beaten us in the Mandalorian Wars. It took a fallen Jedi to gain that honor.

Kelborn

After your victory over Tagren, you cannot fight anyone else until you've encountered Kelborn back in the jungle, and helped him complete the Scout Hunt there. Otherwise, when you speak to the Mandalorian sergeant:

Unless a battle circle champion vouches for you, you cannot fight anyone else in the circle.

Once Kelborn returns from the jungle, he stands beside Davrel, both to the right of the Mandalorian sergeant as you approach the battle circle from the south. You can speak to him before fighting him, but this isn't necessary:

Kelborn: I thought I would see you again. No more scouts in the jungle, right? Together we made short work of them. If you yearn for more fighting, the battle circle can slate that thirst - I'm here for that. It is not a true test of a warrior, but it echoes the thrill of real battle. The sergeant chooses who fights who, but I would eagerly fight you in the battle circle. Kelborn: So what are you here for? 1. Can you tell me anything more about the scouts? Kelborn: No, I can't. We all have our orders, Jedi. 2. The Mandalorians really don't hate the Jedi for losing to them during the war? Kelborn: We're taught not to. Mandalorians want to be tested to the limits of our abilities and beyond. We admire anyone who beats us on the battlefield. Instead of hate we study, practice and train until the next time, so we won't be beaten. But some young Mandalorians find this a hard lesson. Any veteran of the Mandalorian Wars respects Jedi like you. Your actions on Dxun validate this. But we aren't a simple people. 3. I would like to fight you. Kelborn: As would I. I noticed that you killed more scouts than I. I am curious to see your handiwork first hand. Kelborn: You are that eager for a rematch? So am I, Jedi. You're more of a challenge than most of my brothers. Talk to the sergeant, I'm sure it can be arranged. 4. I'll be going now.

When you speak to the sergeant again:

Mandalorian Sergeant: Kelborn says you are worthy enough to face champions. You may fight in the battle circle again.

Tell him you want to fight in the battle circle:

Mandalorian Sergeant: You have enough honor to face a champion of a previous day. Kelborn, what are your terms?

Kelborn: Swords only. No items or the Jedi's Force. And no sword of the Jedi's choosing. Just a simple long blade.

Mandalorian Sergeant: Kelborn chooses to fight with the blade. You may fight with fist, foot, and the blade provided. No using the Force or any other item.

Kelborn makes two attacks with a Dueling Vibrosword, and you receive the same weapon, although you can switch to unarmed combat yourself without violating the rules: you lose it once the fight is over unless you switched to unarmed but, since it cannot be upgraded (only broken down or sold), there's little point in trying to keep it. If you aren't able to beat him:

Battle Circle After seeing the Mandalorian scout, Kelborn, in the field, you know that he is a tough opponent. You weren't able to beat him in the battle circle, but you could always try again.

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Kelborn is over. Kelborn is the clear and honorable victor. You are a strong warrior, Jedi, but no match for the best of us. If you take away your lightsaber and Force, then our training techniques can be more than a match for you.

Kelborn: A worthy fight. With your lightsaber I know the outcome would've been different. The battle circle isn't about what's fair, it's about pushing yourself. You find weakness in yourself, and then overcome it. Real wealth can be gained here. Valuable tactics and techniques that can save your life.

Otherwise:

Battle Circle By defeating the Mandalorian scout, Kelborn, you've gained considerable honor amongst the Mandalorians. The rules of the battle circle have proven that what makes you a formidable fighter isn't just your command of the Force and your equipment. There is one last challenger you can face – the master of the battle circle, Bralor.

Received: 250 Defeated Kelborn

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Kelborn is over. The Jedi is the clear and honorable victor. I... underestimated you. A difficult admission for a Mandalorian. If you fight in the circle again this day, you will face the bravest and strongest of us. Bralor.

Kelborn: I see now why we couldn't win against you during the war. Even fighting at a great disadvantage, you still fight as brutally as a rancor.
Kelborn: We won't fight again. I am curious if you could even defeat Bralor. Now that would be a fight to see.	Kelborn: Your fight with Bralor was brilliant. You are truly a warrior of Mandalorian proportions.

Bralor

After defeating Kelborn, only the champion Bralor remains, standing between Tagren and the Mandalorian sergeant to the left as you approach the battle circle from the south. You can speak to him before fighting him, but this isn't necessary:

Bralor: So the Jedi Order isn't completely dead. You always had hidden strengths - very hard for even the wisest Mandalore to judge and predict. I have studied much of the Jedi since our defeat. I would be honored to cross blades with you in the battle circle. 1. Can you vouch for me in the battle circle? Bralor: I could only do that if I observed you fight an enemy in real combat. I have seen your matches so far, and I do not doubt your worthiness to face me. But the rules cannot be changed. The other champion, Kelborn, is in the jungle on a mission. Perhaps your paths will cross, and you will have your opportunity there. Otherwise: 2. Can I choose who I fight? Bralor: No, it is up to the sergeant. The battle circle was not designed to settle petty vendettas and rivalries. Its primary purpose has always been teaching. Learning from books or holovids is useless when battle rages and soldiers are dying around you. Real knowledge can only be gained through combat. Perhaps we can learn from one another, in time. 3. How does the battle circle work? Bralor: You talk with the sergeant. Today is his day to preside over the circle. Each fight is different because the Mandalorian with greater honor dictates the terms of the engagement. But there will be no terms if we fight. Everyone else will deny you your lightsaber and the use of your "Force." But I want to fight you with all your skill. Victory isn't important in the battle circle. What is important is discovering more about yourself and your opponent. 4. You don't seem as aggressive as the other Mandalorians. Bralor: This is not a battlefield, Jedi. If it were, I trust you wouldn't have the same opinion. I prepare and train, readying my mind and weaponry for a real challenge. Peace is not our natural element. Mandalorians handle it differently. I focus on educating myself in the martial techniques I will need to succeed in the next war. 5. I'll be going now.

If you haven't spoken to the sergeant, asking Bralor if you choose who you fight, or how the battle circle works, can activate this quest. When you tell the sergeant you want to fight in the battle circle:

Mandalorian Sergeant: We eagerly look forward to this fight. Bralor, you are our champion. How would you fight the Jedi?
Bralor: No terms today, sergeant. I would fight the Jedi with all of her arsenal.	Bralor: No terms today, sergeant. I would fight the Jedi with all of his arsenal.
Mandalorian Sergeant: Bralor... will fight you as you are. Still no killing and no leaving the battle circle. But you may use whatever else you want.

Bralor makes three unarmed attacks per round with Unarmed Specialist III, but since you can use your lightsaber(s) or any other weapons and the Force, this fight might actually be comparatively easy unless you decide to match him in unarmed combat without them. However, using Force Push or Wave to throw him back out of the battle circle may be the quickest and easiest way to defeat him (although this only happens if his Reflex save is a failure). If you don't defeat him:

Battle Circle Bralor is the most accomplished warrior in the battle circle. You surprised no one by being defeated by him. He is their champion.

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Bralor is over. Bralor is the clear and honorable victor. You did not win, Jedi, but I do not know how well Bralor would fare in a rematch.

Bralor: So I have learned much. The last Jedi I fought was in ship to ship battle on Malachor V. I lost, but was spared. Before the Mandalorian Wars we looked at Jedi as weak. Their code restricted their full potential. The Jedi were limited by a narrow sense of morality that couldn't survive a real war. But our view was the narrow one. I see that clearly now. I sense we've both learned something today. We can fight again if you like.

Otherwise:

The Second Rule...

Completed the Mandalorian Battle Circle

Battle Circle By defeating Bralor, you have gained a great deal of honor amongst the Mandalorians. You've proven yourself to be more than their equal even on their own terms. The sergeant rewarded you for your effort.

Received: 750 Defeated Bralor

Mandalorian Sergeant: The match between the Jedi and Bralor is over. The Jedi is the clear and honorable victor. You have defeated the most worthy of us. You walk away the champion of the battle circle this day. We will not forget your deeds or the honor you have earned this day.

Mandalorian Sergeant Melee weapon
